Update on my work situation that needed help

Well the short story is I got fired today.

Long story for those who didn't read the first thread was that I am a PT at a local small studio gym. One of my clients I had been with for 1.5 years decided he now wanted to train at home and he wanted me to do it. Silly me I was honest and decided to tell the owners about the change and they flipped. He accused me of stealing clients from them and said that I should pay them a cut of any income I made from that guy even though he came to me through his wife and not the gym itself. Basically I told him no because he didn't have any rights to income from people who aren't using his facility and choose to train with me. I had also been working there 3 years and this was the first time anything like this happened.

So today after I trained two clients he called me into his office and told me my services were no longer needed there. He then told me that I had to leave all of my client files there because they were his property. I've already contacted all of my important clients and they are furious and are planning on going to get their files back themselves - plus it's not like they are going to stop training with me because I'm not at that gym anymore. The owner there doesn't seem to realize that the fact they are training at that gym has nothing to do with him.

So I'm actually going to be better off because I will be keeping all of my income from now on and that gym will lose thousands. Smart business decision. When he told me I actually started laughing at him. Anyway, time to move on to better things. I can't wait to see that place go under.

hope everything goes well for you. it's not like the guy didn't make the decision on his own to quit the gym. maybe u should get a lawyer...

Good for you. Keep your clients is the way to go.

That means more time on IM.

I think the owner was smart, he saw that once you had an outside client you'd find out what a sham it is for a gym to charge you a percentage and not just a gym rental fee. Now he can go sucker some other desperate trainer and suck money out of him for a few years. In my opinion unless the gym is paying trainers to work for them and assist members, any personal trainer should be a free agent and be able to train a client as a private business. If you were to bring your personal Chef to a Members only grocery store to help select foods should the Grocer get a cut of the Chef's profit?
