What would you order?

Me and my friends go to Chili's once a week usually. Sometimes I cheat and just order some greasy chicken quesadillas.

I was wondering lets say for example this week if I want to go and stay on my clean bulk diet. What do you think the best thing to order would be taking in all factors?

http://www.chilis.com/menu/

I'm located in florida if that makes a difference on the menu options. They have a "guiltless" menu as well that lists all the calorie/fat/carbs.

I would just order something off of the guiltless menu.

As clean as you can possibly get for chilli's in my opinion:

From the guiltless grill menu i'd say the salmon and the chicken pita are the least offensive. I would be wary of how they prepare their rice even in their guiltless meals.

From the other parts of the menu, the following look pretty good - and you can always substitute sides with fresh or steamed veggies:

- salad: House Salad with simple oil and vinegar on the side

- Citrus Fire Chicken and Shrimp (nix the rice or sub with more veggies)

- Grilled Salmon with Garlic & Herbs (samd with the rice/veggies -- ask if the garlic/herbs are in a butter sauce or if they're just SEASONINGS, if sauce, ask for it on the side or not at all)

- Chili's Classic Sirloin NO BUTTER, with sides of veggies

- Fajitas - classic, citrus fire, steak & mushroom - all sauces on the side, and it's up to you if you want to eat the fajitas the traditional way in tortillas, or with a knife and fork, skipping the tortillas altogether... i'd skip 'em.

What would I eat? A cheesesteak, fries, and a few Daquiris. they used to have a pretty good buffalo bleu chicken sandwich as well, but I haven't been ther ein forever.

If I were to be healthy, I would order the fajitas and only eat 2, bringing back the remaining 3 or 4 for a later engagement. But realistically, I end up eating all of them right there, or at least within an hour of one another.

Thanks dude. That was a great post see the thing is I go here usually every friday night, and it's basically are meeting place...Before we do something, and just wanted to figure out whats good to have. I mean they have the healthy shit back there but they ruin it with buttttter.

I ordered the classic sirloin last time, and I thought I was serving myself well as a NON CHEAT meal. The veggies were like fully bathed in butter, it was almost hard to eat cause I'm so use to eating it dry. What would be another good side to get? Black beans? I think I need more carbs then just veggies?

AHahahah emmmm cheeeesesteak. I use to go to a baseball sleepaway camp in pennsylvania and my counslers would sneak them in when they went out.

But fajitas are healthy? Is there enough protein?

Chicken, cheese.

mmm 12 oz ribeye.

You're bulking right? Why are u worried about one meal a week, you're gonna gain fat when you bulk no matter what you do. Even if you were cutting, one meal ain't gonna do $#!+.

Unless it's a health oriented restaurant, you have to specify NO BUTTER or NO SAUCE on every single item you order. it's terrible, but it's like they don't know what the hell to do with people who want to live past 40. hahaha!

As far as other sides...

If you're bulking i guess black beans are not a bad choice, and even a baked potato (PLAIN, buddy!). All this crap about potatoes being high GI and all... i mean if you're eating other foods along with it, the combination is NOT high GI (if you're at all concerned about that). Potatoes get a bad rap for no reason. They're full of good stuff.

If you're cutting - then either of those (beans and potatoes) might be too high cal depending on what your daily calorie limit is suppsoed to be. Up to you. Even then, just half the order... Eat half, throw out or take home the other half, if you need your carbs.

Yeah but for some people it is easier to keep fat gain to a minimum if they just bulk with clean foods as much as possible. It is also a good way to not fall into the, "ah what does it matter. I'm bulking right now." mentality, and end up getting sloppy in the process.

If you are bulking I'd definately go with the fajitas and skip the sour cream. Guac is fine so long as you don't over do it.

Hell if i were a guy and i was bulking i'd go for the steak, personally. But i just LOVE steak. hahahahaha!

Thanks guys (and ladies, sorry about that!)

I really appreciate all your advice. I just finished a nice cut and I'm at 175 with around 7% bodyfat. Before this I bulked thinking the other way "what does it matter im bulking ill eat anything" and then you look like crap. I bulked up to 215 and just cut down to 175. This time I want to get up to 190 very clean and slowly. When I bulked up last time I went about it with the wrong mentality and I was a chubby bloated yet big 215.

I do realize 1 meal has no significance out of the 41 other meals I have a week. But why cheat when you dont find the need? I dont get any urge to cheat. I'm just eating out because my friends do and I want to be social instead of not being. During the week I have about 2 protein bars which aren't exactly perfect, so I'd rather eat clean when possible.

After I go out and have 4 slices of pizza, I feel fat, dirty, lazy, and not soo ripped not to mention bloated. I feel much better when I go to a restaurant and eat the healthiest thing possible. Not counting the calories (or knowing the amount), and not cooking my food is enough of treat/cheat meal to me anyways!

Yes I think I will make my NON-CHEAT meal this week steak, since I don't get any red meat in my diet.

A mentality like this is what causes the massive amount of thick bloated big guys walking around the gym. While 1 meal doesn't have much affect at all, 1 meal turns into 2, and so on and so on. Just because your bulking doesn't mean you have to get fat. Sure your bodyfat will go up, but my goal is to keep it to a minimum. I still have visible abs right now, and I'd like to try to keep them!

You will gain alot more fat eating out all the time (cheating) then eating clean meals.

I get to eat steak almost every day from the dining hall here. Just have to trim off some of the bad stuff.

This is true, if the cheat meals turn into a cheat week or month or year. I personally like to cheat, and do it every weekend. But I do understand where you are coming from. Eating healthy does make you feel better. But so does pigging out once in a while! To each his (or her) own.

i'd make it a cheat meal and go to town...

they have excellent salads there - although the chicken is breaded, i was told that it wasn't fried. then i end up bringing a couple pieces of wheat bread for a carb source.

I normally do...But the whole point of the thread is what to have if I dont feel like cheating this week. I had a lazy gym week and I'd feel better If I ate clean.

if you click on the menu on the side are the words "nutritional information" and it'll opens up a .pdf document that has the nutr. info for all of their items. you'll need adobe reader to view it.

Posted by: Yanick

can't go wrong with steak

Posted by: I Are Baboon

I usually get the crispy chicken salad. Sure it's not the healthiest chicken in the world, but it tastes good and I use the dressing very sparingly (not a big fan of dressing). They are usually pretty generous with the chicken portions, so you usually get 5-6 ounces piled on your salad.

Chili's makes a good burger.

I like chili's...

Because I'm a loner and a rebel dottie,
I get carry out from there every couple weeks -

Classic Sirloin:

Chili’s Classic Sirloin 1 Serving cal 530 fat 41 sat 14 carbs 1 protein 36 sodium 890

This must be after they prepare it right, with butter?

I dont think a 8oz sirloin has 41g fat?

Posted by: r0dxx

It baffles me to see what some dishes actually include that people eat all the time.

Cajun Chicken Pasta 1 Serving 5800mg SODIUM!

I am having a heart attack just reading this number and the numbers for the sirloin!

hell yes, those 41g of fat on 8 oz. of cooked steak are largely thanks to the butter, no friggin doubt about it! GROSS!!!

I think that steak ordered without butter is more like 10g-15g fat.
