Canada World Junior Hockey Champs

I know there aren't alot of hockey fans on here. But if you get a chance and they show the game down in the States you have to watch the Gold Medal Game between the Russians and Canadians. Balls to the walls Contact and all out hustle. This Junior action blows away the competition.

Canada won 5-0. Which was suprising, considering they weren't expected to medal, with no experience and a bunch of younger players. The US choked (Favorites for the tournament) and lost in the Bronze medal game to the Fins.

Next stop repeat as Olympic Gold Medalists in Feb

Hockey is the best live sport in the world!

Guess what it is that time of year again.

Gold medal game is on right now. Canada is up 4-2 going into the third period over the Russians. If they can hold on the for the victory that will be three in a row Canada hasn't lost a game in this tournament in 17 games. Showing that hockey player development still continues to be the forefront here in Canada.

The last Game between the US and Canada in the Semifinals was awesome, went to a shoot out, these Kids are amazing.

If you ever want to see amazing hockey, these Junior games are where it is at.

And for you Yanks, they won the bronze medal.

They won! Good job boys!

Barry Melrose, on ESPN, said that the Canda game against the USA was one of the best games he has seen.....plus he has that cool slicked back mullet with grey hair on the side!

I'm gonna be him for Halloween next year.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Yeah the Canada/US game was pretty awesome. The US was one of the favorites this year. The shootout was awesome it went to extra shots as well. Canada scored on 5 of 7 shots, and the US scored on 4 of 7 shots. So it was nail biting.

that would be a great costume!

Is it just me or does it seem like the other ESPN guys kind of pick on him or raz him a little bit when ever they go to his segment of the show?

Yeah they do a little bit, but he's a great sport. He's one of my favorite analysts for any sport.

yea, I like him too. He has a lot of excitement when he gives the highlights.

Does anyone know which team he used to coach for?

Posted by: IainDaniel

The LA kings.

Posted by: P-funk

was he a good coach?

Posted by: IainDaniel

Nah not really. He started coaching there when Wayne Gretzky first started there. They never won a cup, they made it to a cup one season. But did shit other then that. I think Remember a rumour that Gretzky was the one that got him fired.

i want to go to a Coyotes game and throw shit at gretzky's head. want to come with me?

Posted by: IainDaniel

I would love to go to a coyotes game, but to throw shit at Gretzky's head.... hmm I can't do that. Shit he is from the city where I live. I would be strung up by the balls and burned for doing that shit.

Plus he is the greatest player ever. But he shouldn't be a coach.

come on down to AZ! We can go to a game.

I was wondering, how popular are the Raptors where you live? Is the NBA popular up there? Or is it like Baseball was in Montreal?

Posted by: IainDaniel

trust me I would love to.

Raptors are pretty big, Attendance has dropped off a little that last couple of seasons cause of a shit product and all the shitty drafts and the whole Vince Carter crap. But before that you would have a tough time getting a decent ticket. I would rather go to a Raptor Game then a Leaf game.

Posted by: P-funk

really? as much as you love hockey you would rather go to a b-ball game?

Posted by: IainDaniel

Leafs are shit to watch it is all suits and ties no atmosphere. To get a decent seat to the leafs you are looking at $100 a seat. Shit we spent $50 a seat to go to a preseason game and it was the last row before standing room only.

Just the energy at a basketball game (at least the Raptors) can't be compared.

Having said that I would take a Baseball ticket over any of these.

Posted by: P-funk

you should come out here....we could go to a SUNS game too...talk about excitement!

Posted by: IainDaniel

See the great white Canadian Hope 2 time MVP Steve Nash

One day hopefully. Shit we are home right now watching my brother/ Sister-in-laws kids while the rest of the Family is partying down in Vegas

Posted by: ponyboy

Raptors games they do a better job of entertaining you as well. Leaf games like he said are just a bunch of stodgy business guys paying $10 a beer for $150 seats. I like the Raptors this year but they need to get a real coach.

We have season's tickets to the pro lacrosse team here - one season's ticket costs as much as ONE Leaf game and is WAY more entertaining. Like a good combo of hockey and basketball.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Yeah the Toronto Rock (lacrosse) is the best entertainment value for the buck. Man I miss my season tickets to them.

You know Colin Doyle got traded right?

Posted by: P-funk

I didn't even know that AZ has a lacrosse team! The AZ Sting, and they play right here in Phoenix! It is only $12 a ticket! I am so there.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Seriously go watch this fucking sport as you yanks call it Box lacrosse. Best bang for the buck. Fights, aggressiveness, contact, insane skills and ball handling, high scoring. Arizona played last night, they lost.

Looks like most of there home games are friday night.

I have watched lacrosse before. I can follow the game. I just never knew that AZ had a team until I looked. it gets no advertising at all out here.

Posted by: IainDaniel

yea, I never watched it growing up because cleveland didn't have lacrosse. heck, we didn't even have hockey until we got the Penguins minor league team when i was like 12 or 13. I really wished there was hockey when i was growing up because I would have liked to play it.

anyway, we i went to college in boston i got really exposed to lacrosse....everyone in the New England area plays it. NY (long island) has a pretty big scene also.

I have watched NLL because on of my friends played lacrosse at UMASS and his cousin played in the NLL.

Ive been to a few lacrosse games. They fight just about every 10 minutes or less.

Posted by: IainDaniel

yeah you are from Philly right?

The Philly wings are a pretty good team they have a good rivalry with Toronto. I remember always getting into it with some wings fans when I had tickets

About 25 minutes from philly, I live in NJ. The fans get crazy as hell.

I wonder how long Lacrosse will take before it becomes a major sport in the US? On the east coast it is real big, on the west coast it is still kind of small, except for denver and some places in texas.

Hockey doesn't translate well on TV....Lacrosse is really bad on TV!

Posted by: IainDaniel

I don't see lacrosse ever getting big. Too many ignorant people that are lead by the mainstream. Kinda like hockey.

I enjoy Hockey on TV and Lacrosse. Guess the commentators make all the difference, cause I can't watch a game with american commentators. I would rather die.
