Need some help with the 'fat' issue

I know, I know...this topic has been covered in some other threads. But I am still confused!

I know that I need to start incorporating more fat into my diet (thanks w8, for letting me know). I'm not sure how to do this. I cannot eat nuts due to gastrological issues. So, what does that leave? Avocado, salmon? What else? w8 has mentioned using full fat mayonaisse when I make tuna...and egg yolks. I currently eat 1 yolk with every 4 whites, usually twice a day.

And I'm confused on the whole Udo's oil/Flax seed oil thing. Which is better? Are they the same? And I'm speaking of the capsules, not the actual oil.

Please help! I'm having some skin issues and I think it may be due to my low fat intake.

Thanks!

well, hell....
if all you need in your diet is some fat...how 'bout a nice king sized Butter finger????

As far as actual scientifical answers...I'm coming up empty..

Er, yeah, see I was eating a King Size Twix everyday, but that didn't seem to be helping. LOL.

Posted by: Burner02

see? You should have tried the Butter Finger!
Oy. I tell ya, if more people would listen to the word of mike...it would be a much better place...

oh, allright, go with the extra yolks, maybe some cheese with some things?
Can you do peanut butter? Does that jack your system?

Heavy cream is very good as are natural oils, butter and nut butters! (nut butter maybe safer for you than nuts?) Be very careful, these are calorically dense foods!

There is a lot to know about EFAs (essentail fatty acids) and when I get more time, I will delineate more! For now, know that Udo is an incredible man, I know him personally, his book, "Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill" is the definitive work on fats!

His premise (and he developed the cold pressing techniques used for most oils today) is that his blend of 1:1 Omega 3s to 6s is what a person needs for balance . The assumption here here is that his oil is the primary fat source, 1 TBLS per 45 pounds!

However, if your diet includes other oils, seeds, nuts, avos, etc, then you are already getting a high N-6 (Omega 6) content, and flax and/or fish oil would be beter for you! (Flax is 54-57% N-3 and still has N-6 and N-9)

Also you can make your own 50/50 blend with half flax and half safflower if need be! The MCTs in Udo's are counter productive to the system (Mercola, Di Pasquale), and the Phytonutrients (which occur naturally, they don't really add them ), are not in a therapeutic dosage.

note: Dr. Mercola has come out recently against high polyunsatuarated oil use, suggesting fish oils and extra virgin olive oils are best!

Last comment, before somebody condemns SF (saturated fats), I believe w8 has posted on this, in low insulin space, dietary fat and cholesterol DO NOT contribute to total cholesterol or triglycerides, the have the opposite effect, raising HDL and lowering LDL, TRIG and Total CHOL! Hyperinsulinimia (high insulin levels) is the culprit!

FC, how'd you get to be so smart?

Did I mention I'm sort of lactoce intolerant? I don't think the heavy cream would be good for me. And yes I have issues! And no, I'm not trying to make excuses.

I don't eat nuts, salmon, or avocado on a regular basis. Nuts because of my gastrological problem's (Chrone's), salmon because it's too expensive to buy all the time, and avacodo because whenever I buy them I wait until thier 'bad' before cutting them open...I can't seem to get my act together on those.

So, if I go and buy some Udo's oil caplets tomorrow...I buy them at The Vitamin Shoppe (there is a store by my work), here's the info from the website. I am assuming they will have the same thing in the store:

Udo's Choice Perfected Blend:
Udo's Choice Perfected Oil Blend
Supplement Facts
Serving Size 2 Capsules
Container Size 90 (Capsules)

Amount Per
Serving % Daily
Value

Calories 20 N/A*

Calories From Fat 20 N/A*

Total Fat 2g 3%

Polyunsaturated Fat 1g N/A*

Omega-3 Fatty Acids 920mg N/A*

Omega-6 Fatty Acids 460mg N/A*

Omega-9 Fatty Acids 400mg N/A*

Medium Chain Triglycerides 38mg N/A

How many of these would I take and when? I am female, about 5.5, about 120 pounds.

Thanks FC for your help!

IS there any reason you`d want the capsules over the liquid version???

Posted by: Miss LeDix

I bought some Flax oil about a year ago..stuff practically made me puke! What? Are the pills nasty, too?

Posted by: kuso

Dunno...I just started taking the Udo`s liquid version, and while I`ve heard that flax is pretty bad, Udo`s is standable....besides, I just mix it in with a protien shake and barely notice it`s in there.

I just thought for the recommended amount of fat per day you`ll require, the pills would end up being much more expensive than the liquid.

"note: Dr. Mercola has come out recently against high polyunsatuarated oil use, suggesting fish oils and extra virgin olive oils are best!"

Yeah, polys have more chance of being oxidised too. Not as stable as monos.

Not to mention it's actually sat and mono fat that has been linked to test increases and not polys.

Miss LeDix, heavy whipping cream doesn't actually contain much carbs (like a few grams per 100ml or so) would that still cause a problem?

Posted by: Miss LeDix

Heavy whipping cream = dairy = milky = lactose = no good for my tummy. Although I do eat cottage cheese every day and it doesn't see to bother me for some reason. Foods are odd like that.

Okay...once again, I am not trying to make excuses! But I buy the ready to drink Myoplex (11 oz). I just open it and pour it into a cup, and drink. Do you mean taking a tablespoon of oil and mixing it in there? Is it not going to taste like shit?

Posted by: kuso

Put in a shaker and give it a good old shake....it`ll change the flavour, but not too badly.

The flavour kind of reminds me of tufo, but a little stronger

I`m a VERY fussy eater, if I can handle it, I think you probably can LOL

Posted by: Fat Cell

MYOCRAP has 22 grams of sugars, bad for a cut! It will cover the oil taste however?

If you get away with Cottage Cheese, w/o severe gas and bloating, cream will be even less of a problem! Milk has 12 grams of sugar (lactose) per cup. Cream has even less than CC at .7 per TBLS!

BTW 1 TBLS of cream has 5 grams of fat, so you will need 2-3 if that is your only fat source in a meal!

My Myoplex only has 20 carbs, 16 grams of sugar. LOL. I get the 11oz, maybe you are thinking of a bigger serving. Anyway...I still have eight shakes left so I am not going to not drink them. It seems like I need to decide between getting the cream and getting the Udo's oil. Frankly, I don't want to mess with either of them!

Why is this all so hard? It seems like as soon as you get one thing going good, another comes and bites you in the ass!

Okay, enough with the complaining...for now.
