Brand new to working out and cutting. What would anyone recomend as a protein supplement (brand, type etc) for protein shakes or similar?

If you're new, you don't need anything fancy or high tech.
Three good meals a day - plenty carbs at breakfats, plenty lean meat & fish, lots of fruit & veg.
Have 2 protein shakes between meals, making sure you have a nice big one after you train.
Search on google for "cheap whey protein" & don't pay more than $20 for a 5lb tub - which should last you a month.
Get at least 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass, keep fats to a minimum & eat enough carbs to make your arms & chest grow but not your hips & waist.
Apart from that, the only supps you need are a one-a-day multivit. Anything else is a waste of money in the first few years.
Half of what's on the market is snake oil anyway.

Great site for supps:
bulknutrition.com
Get yourself a tub of Optimum Nutrition Whey. Great stuff. Chocolate and Vanilla taste really good.
