I run and walk about 2.5km on my cardio. My question is, if i were to run that distance would i be expending more calories vs walking? Its the same distance running or walking. Right now i can fast jog that distants for 3/4 of the distance b4 i have to start walking. I know that jogging is better for the the cardivascular system but i'm only talking calories here. Btw i do my cardio outside, on the same route everytime i do this.

It's not necessarily how many calories you burn during the workout that counts, but also the amount you burn afterwards. Consider weightlifting. If you do high-intensity weightlifting (cleans, jerks, snatches) or high-intensity compound movements (deadlifts, front squats, bench presses) with reasonable volume, your body will continue to burn calories after you finish lifting for up to 48 hours. The most effective way to utilize this with cardio is probably HIIT, or high intensity interval training. In HIIT training, you walk, then run, then walk, then run. You do cycles at various intensities to get the positive effects of both intensities and the lower intensity helps you recover from the higher intensity. So, to answer your question, it would probably burn the most total calories to do some combination of both.

Thanks alot for your reply. You answered my question perfectly . As for HIIT, when u mean run, is that 100% sprint or a fairly fast jog? What i'v been doing is a fairly fast pace jog until i lose my wind. Then as soon as i catch my breath again i'll do it again until my route is done.

HIIT = all out, balls to the wall sprint for very short intervals accompanied by active rest. maximal energy exertion.
ie:
15 sec sprint : 30 sec active rest
30 sec sprint : 60 sec active rest
8-12 sets max

What's up billsfan
A little off topic but who do you think the bills are gonna take with the #8 pick.
Personally, if Brick isn't there I would like to see them trade down and get an additional 2nd.

I'm pretty sure you would burn more calories running an equivalent distance. Most of the work performed when walking or jogging occurs when you push upward. It requires very little energy to maintain the same forward speed. When you jog or run as opposed to walk, you are continually leaping off the ground, raising your calorie requirements big time. Although you are walking for longer, I'm pretty sure that the increased power output during a bout of running more than offsets this. Not to mention, the increased intensity of the sessions will lead to an elevated metabolism some time after the workout, although the effect may not be too significant in this case.

Thank you for the reply cowpimp. I think i'm gonna do my distance running along with the HIIT. Get the best out of both u know. Maybe do something like distance one week and then HIIT the next.
Hey Fletcher, I havent check out our situation yet really, right now there's so much bullshit at Bills forum that i dont wanna go in there. But b4 i left the last time ppl were saying the brick or ngata. I definetly think we need our o-line fixed first tho.
