Motivation?

My motivation has been lacking lately. I was making HUGE gains for a while, but have leveled off. I know I'm not in an overtraining condition because I've already taken a week off here and there just to try and boost my mental state. I'm still working out, just not getting as much out of it as I used to. My heart's just not in it for some reason. What do you do when that happens?

still lift and not be a pussy

^That Jay Cutler one will make you stop what you're doing and go train back.

A well thought out, intelligent response.

Why did you start in the first place? Think of that. Or what you can do, is take a break from training. You'll start to lose size and strength, and once you start to notice it (heaven forbid, other people noticing too ), it'll make you want to hit the gym in a hurry. That's what I've noticed.

Are there things going on outside of the gym that are more pressing and demanding more of your energies?

Posted by: P-funk

change the focus of what I am working on usually helps.

Like, if I have been traning my olympic lifts for a long time and working on strength I may shift to training for hypertrophy and still train the lifts but de-emphasize them (less volume). Or, work on more endurance lifting etc....I just change the fosuc of my training and emphasize something that I had been de-emphasizing and just move things around.

i like to watch a motivational movie that has nothing to do with training. Last week i was feeling pathetic and then i watched gladiator and braveheart. It was more than enough to make me not want to be a soft-bodied bitch. I had a good week in the gym.

Let Defendis tell you what a crybaby schoolgirl you are. See signature, little girl!

Try using an MP3 player. Get some decent music on it. Rock, HipHop, Pop, whatever gets you 'psyched' up.

I've been having the same problem since I was attacked by my dog, from making the best gains ever to working out inconsistenly.

Whats killing me is work, I have too much of it.

Mino's got it right!
Too many distractions make you lose focus. Gains at anything are never linear!

Set new goals or try adding or changing your routine or location, anything to keep it fresh. But stay with it at least for maintenance purposes.

Besides what could you possibly replace working out with that would be as beneficial?

Hell, I just got serious about all this at 50 years old, damn wish i had this kind of focus and gains when I was 20. head up my ass back then!
This forum keeps me anchored and inspired to keep working hard, even when it's hard to find time. I mean everthing is tough at this age!

Try something new and different. Try some strongman training or powerlifting or something. Sometimes you just need a change.

Posted by: min0 lee

Try a new gym, I plan on doing that.

Hey, the mighty midget is still alive! How's it goin' buddy? Haven't heard from you since they discovered electricity.

Thanks for MOST of the responses. (Kenwood, if you're trying to be funny you should include smileys. If you're being serious you need to grow up a bit.) The MP3 player suggestion is a winner except I already got one. I've got one of the very first ones to come off the assembly line. Can't lift without it. I like P-funk's idea about trying a different style. Maybe I'll go for more size instead of strength for a while. Probably easier on my joints anyway. Ya' know, between P-funk and Tank, you little people ain't too bad.

There are alot of times when I lose motivation. But what I do helps almost all the time. Whether it's cardio, lifting, or just trying to eat when I'm not hungry, when I lose motivation I turn like schizophrenic. The one part of me is calling me a bitch and saying im worthless and I can't do anything, so then I'm like "I'm not a bitch!" and I get done whatever it was that I couldn't do. But then other days the one part of me will start calling me a bitch, and I'll just be like "You're right!" and so I stop everything and cry

I just watch lifting videos.

Ur dog attacked you?? What happened??

As for me I start to lose a little motivation every time I'm off cycle...mainly because you are busting ur ass and eating the house and still lose weight and strength...It sucks but I haven't given up yet and hope I never do...I'm taking a week off now, I'm way overdue and this week's schedule is so hectic I thought it appropriate...

Every time I look in the mirror it motivates me...and every time I see a guy whose way bigger than me and doesn't even want to compete it motivates me.

I did this, and, it was the best move I made. I now, alternate gyms.

Sometimes, you need a different atmosphere in order to get you back
in the momentum. If joining a second gym is out of the question, try
visiting other gyms, and pay for a day pass.

Good Luck!

Sorry this is happening, bro.

Fortunately I never have this problem, because my favorite part about BB is actually being in the gym (the crazy pump you get and the pwo high afterwards).

I don't know what to tell you other than take a step back and reevaluate what you really want

Not too much of a problem there. I just feel down and find it very difficult to push myself to get that extra rep. I haven't stopped and won't stop going to the gym, just need to find a way to get the intensity back.
