Watching the fight Friday Night...

got me to thinking, since the fight was stopped (for good reason), but if you did happen to disagree, what are some of the worst robberies, decisions, and stops that you have ever seen in boxing? Feel free to agree or disagree with anyone b/c this all just opnion.

I have a few in mind.

1.Ike Quartey v.Oscar DeLaHoya- good fight and close, but IMO Quartey clearly won the fight.

2.Hector Camacho v. Ray Boom Boom Mancini-IMO Boom Boom whipped his ass and good. I thought the judges were blind in this one and robbed Mancini.

3.Sugar Ray Leonard v. Marvelous Marvin Hagler-Once again I thought Hagler won this fight and he was robbed

I can think of a few more like the Tyson/Ruddick fight, I still don't know why that one was stopped and no rematch.

Ike Quartey v Oscar De La Hoya was a close one, but scorecards said otherwise (split decision): two judges had this thing scored 116-112 and 116-113 for DLH!

Tyson v Ruddock... there was a rematch. It was Tyson's very next fight and went the distance. Tyson whooped Ruddock both times. Scorecards had him with a huge lead in both fights.

Just off the top of my head... Meldrick Taylor v Julio Ceasar Chavez had one of the most ridiculous endings I have seen. Although I am a big Mayweather fan, his first fight with Castillo was a loss for him.. Castillo got screwed. However, Mayweather redeemed himself in the rematch. Scorecards didn't have either match being close.

Thanks, I didn't see the Tyson- Ruddick rematch and never heard anything about it. I assume that was his last fight before prison? I still thought it was stupid to stop the match in the first fight. I have to disagree on the Ike Quartey v Oscar De LaHoya. I thought Quartey had the fight won. I know that De LaHoya won the 12th and scored a knock down but I would have had Quartey ahead enough that a 10-8 last round wouldn't matter. Like I said just my opnion. Post some more if you can think of any, I like to see what other peoples opnion is.

O'Neil Bell vs Dale Brown.....Brown was robbed

Ali vs Ken Norton lll....Ali won but it was clear he lost 10 out of 15 rounds

Oscar De La Hoya vs Shane Mosley ll....Shane won but Oscar really won this and maybe the first fight also

Jermain Taylor vs Bernard Hopkins....Taylor got the win in both fights but I and many think he lost both fights or Drew at best

John Ruiz vs Andrew Golota......John lost big time

Chris Byrd vsAndrew Golota...again Golata won

James Douglas vs Mike Tyson....Judges had it a draw in round 9 eventhough Mike lost 7 out of 9 rounds........But James Douglas got the win by knocking Mike the fuck out.

Yeah, for a championship fight, such an early stopage really is BS, which is why they gave him a rematch. It was entirely the ref's call to stop the fight, and whether or not it really was a good call is debatable. Ruddock was very likely going to take more consecutive hits had it not been stopped, and it's hard to say how much permanant damage can be done by a hard heavyweight puncher like that. Referee Richard Steele has made a ton of bad calls in championship fights, but I believe in this case he was actually looking out for Ruddock. (Richard Steele is the same ref that made the Julio Ceasar Chavez v Meldrick Taylor fight so controversial).

As for the DLH-Quartey fight, I was merely agreeing with you. I made the point that the match seemed to be set up for robbery from the start just by looking at the huge gap in the scorecards of the 2 out of 3 judges.

Yeah, Tyson was pretty big shit back then (especially overseas) and was favored 40:1 for the Douglas fight. It seems judges tend to favor "the big shots" over the unlikely underdogs a lot of the time, which ends up with them scoring rounds in which they thought were close (or somethings not) for "the big shots." Other times they may just be blatently giving lost rounds to their guy. Good thing Douglas got the KO, the only undisputable win.

I don't believe I have caught the Camacho v. Mancini fight yet, but I do vaguely remember seeing highlights of the Leonard v Hagler fight on an episode of Legendary Nights. I will have to look into getting a copy of the fight or catching it on ESPN Classics some time before giving you valid feedback. Nothing lamer than commenting in detail on a fight you haven't seen or don't remember.

yep and that was complete shit too because mike had him on the canvas for 14 seconds,,in the 8th

So you think DLH won every round except the last four which he pretty much threw away?

I was going to mention this fight too, but... look at my avatar. Even with the controversy, it was still a pretty close fight. Lederman had it scored at 114-114. Anyway, you can't cry for De La Hoya, he ran for the last three/four rounds, the most important rounds when going the distance. Sure he was in the clear lead up to Round 8, but just throwing away the last rounds is plain
