Lifting and Atkins

I'm thinking of doing the Atkin's diet for two weeks just to drop some fat. Then do a low carb high protein normal healthy diet. I just had a physical and my cholesterol was 154, BP was 120/68 so I'm not too worried about the cholesterol. Plus I'll be eating lean beef, my last deer tenderloin :~(, chicken, tuna and broiled fishes. My question is this. What is this going to do with my metabolism as far as lifting goes. I'm doing the 50lb. bench program and doing great at it and don't want to mess it up.

2 things.
Dieting for 2 weeks seems pretty pointless to me.
Adkins (an SKD) is going to severly hamper your ability to weight train. You *might* make it if you just do it for 2 weeks.
Just popping in.
Have a nice day.

If you're gonna do Atkins (stupid) No Carb diet then you're gonna need serious energy boosters just to stay awake.

It actually allows 20 grams of carbs (I know that ain't sh_t). I've known people to do it who actually had more energy while they were on it.
I know this is different, but back in my first year in college, I had a REAL bad semester topped off with my high school sweetheart dumping me over the phone. I got sick and just didn't eat. Had no hunger pains or anything for about 2 weeks. During those two weeks I lost 20 pounds and played some of the best tennis i've ever played in my life. I had tons of energy. Don't know if that was mental or what. But it happened. I'm only going to do it for 2 weeks and then get back on my 230P, 100C, 40F ratio.

Years ago I once did a diet that was low-everything, high aerobics and I lost weight real fast and had more energy than any time ever. I also lost almost 15 pounds of muscle. I attribute the super-energy to muscle tissue breakdown and the energy value therein.
Never do that again.

about a year and half ago i was in trouble for drinking and driving(young and stupid) well i was drinking about a 12 pack to a case a day, and of course that much beer i was big and fat
Well after that reality check, i did the diet and went from 270 down to 210 in about 3 months i was also taking in about 250 grams of protien a day, and allowing about 20 to 40 grams of carbs, along with cardio about twice a week, and lifting 3 days a week. At the time i was working in construction, so being outside helped me sweat alot of it off. So i am a firm believer in the atkins diet, i have been able to maintain my weight and build muscle while changing diets and intaking more carbs.

How much did you lose in the two week induction period? Just curious. Nice job on the weight loss BTW.

You are allowed a certain number on carbs on the diet but it will make the amount of weight loss differ, i was taking in the carbs for insurance of not letting my muscle be used for fuel. The amount of energy you gain is incredible, and believe me it can really boost your mental and physical stamina, so i would try it just do it sensible and make sure you supply your body the right fuel when doing lifting or exercises, and also take in alot of water.

The first 2 days are a killer, because your going from what your used to, to a completely different fuel source, in the 2 week period, i dropped about 18 lbs. The initial weight loss is the most in my case and others that i have known who have done the same diet. The time after that it differs, but it is not as much as the beginning. Definition is a key factor of the diet, that makes me believe in it

If you can do that type of diet and still workout and stay energised - DO IT!
It just doesn't work for me.

I'll let y'all know how it goes. Had a bad workout last night. Happens sometimes. Especially when there are too many people in my way and I started getting P.O.'d. Bench program is starting to take its toll on the rest of my workout. Thought declines and shoulder press were going to be the end of me.
