the necessity of protein shakes

I always take about two scoops of whey protein within 10 minutes after i lift. I'm interested in bulking since I only weigh 150 lb. I've read some of the diet plans for bulking and they suggest that you should have about 2-3 shakes a day. So two questions... Is that healthy? Wouldnt you want your main source of intake to be from natural healthy foods? and the second question.. won't your body just end up digesting all of that excess protein? I feel that if I were to have 3 shakes everyday I would have some serious diahrea.

shekes dont always mean water/milk + whey.
If ur bulking u can make a shake with oats/peanut butter/fruits/ etc.
And i recommened to add in sum high GI carbs in ur post workout shake. I like dextrose(corn sugar/glucose) cuz its simple and easy.

so when should I be taking whey? I list monday, wednesday, friday and i take two scoops right after I lift. I then might have one scoop and tuesdays and thuresdays but thats it. Also.. I make my shakes with choclate whey, milk, and icc cream occasionally. What else can I add to my shakes to add some cals, and that will taste good??

You might not have to take any whey depending on your diet and how much protein you are getting from natural foods

I take 2-3 shakes a day when i do not train, and 3-4 when i do. Plus i eat 5 whole food meals. noless. I like protein shakes. Add 3 servings oats, 2 cups milk, 2 scoops whey, and a lil honey after your workout. this is what i do, i also have one right when i wake, , and before bed. sometimes an extra one in the day.

though all shakes arent the same, i do not add honey and oats to the bed time one, or to the one when i wake.

Also i mean i eat like 250g protein from whole foods. this is a little boost, i like the hgih protein diet.

250g is exessive unless you're 18, 6'5" and 260+ pounds and 14% body fat

2 shakes a day is fine but I would not suggest more. It would be healthier for you to get in real food. Shakes are a supplement and they do not replace proper nutrition.

1 shake should be your PWO with skim milk, fruit, yogurt etc.....

The 2nd shake could either be a casein protein at bedtime or it could be a WPI made into a meal replacement for another time of the day with oats and natty PB.

Are you taking in enough complex carbs? What about High GI carbs after workout?

Hey man, just from personal experience. Food protein is way better. I stopped taking this stuff a year ago and am better for it. There are bodybuilders with their photo on the labels who would never touch the supplement they sponcer.
Let us take the part of chesse production that no one wants and put it in a box. We'll charge 40.00 for this crap, find a famous bodybuilder to promote it, and list all the benefits the public wants to hear.
Genius I tell ya.

whey and powders in general do you have their place, especially after a workout and in the morning upon waking. All other times of the day, i agree with you.
