Is Protein Mix Necessary?

When I was working out back home (Seattle), I was drinking 2 protein shakes for breakfast, eating a 1/2 pound of peanut butter for lunch and then cooking a big dinner. Now I live in Japan and the protein mix costs over $100 for 3kg! Is this stuff really worth it or can I just double my PB intake?

I hope that is a joke on the PB. That's a bad source of protein. PB is a fat source.

No, protein powders are not necessary - they are of convenience only. You can get all your protein from whole foods which is a better source anyway.

Actually, no I wasn't joking. I had a trainer tell me to eat that much. I'm very thin and have 3% body fat so it was working out wery well actually. We're only talking about 6 or 7 big spoonfuls. It sounds like a lot but it's really not that much. Here in Japan all foods, medicines, vitamins, etc are 5-10 times the price of back home so looks like either way I'm going to pay.

That trainer didn't know what the hellhe was talking about then. I would never suggest that to anyone.

A proper diet of proteins, complex carbs, veggies and healthy fats is the only way to go.
