Eggs

My new diet calls me for going to bed a little earlier and waking up a little earlier so that I have enough time to eat 4 yolks and 8 whites and a cup of oatmeal.

I do however have one question about this morning breakfast. Is it alright to consume that many eggs on a daily basis? I'm in above average shape, I workout alot, and I eat a well balanced diet.

Should I worry about the cholesterol, even if as Jodi said dietary cholesterol isn't connected blood cholesterol?

cholesterol is 90% genetic, I don't worry about it ever. I eat 4-8 yolks a day and 1lb of read meat a day and have so for 25 years....and my cholesterol is very low...

Well, I think that's too many yolks regardless. Yes, dietary cholesterol has no effects on blood cholesterol levels.........but I do not think 4 yolks is good. That's 20 grams of saturated fat in one meal. That's too much for anyone.

Good point, it is alot of fat. Although when I was doing 3 yolks and 8 whites I wasn't full enough it seemed and was hungry come my early lunch period three hours later.

I am bulking, still too much fat?

The egg yolk debate has raged on for years.....every few years the opinion changes. Bottom line is eggs are good natural food and you are 100x better off eating lots of them every day then the fast food and candy most fat fucks eat....I say eat as many yolks as you want.

Yeah, being "healthy" is relative.

I agree with Jodi - Although cholesterol is mostly related to genetics there are better fat sources than whole eggs.

I would cut it back to 2 yolks and increase fats from other sources (eg: add a few oz of avocado to your eggs instead... Or add some almonds or flaxmeal to your oats..).

Why? Just because you think so? Study after study has shown that just so many of the nutrional ideas that are clinically held close to the heart have no scientific evidence:
http://www.mercola.com/2002/aug/17/saturated_fat1.htm

While not everyone is the same, the most recent and actually best researced evidence shows that a diet higher in fats, prteins and veggies with lower carbs is best for the majority of the population. It did not show any correlation to saturated fat causing health problems.

Next thing to go out the window is the Transfat myth.

For once I agree with Forman. 100%

Please don't post an article from Mercola and expect to be taken seriously. Show me some real proof from pubmed or medical journals and then maybe I won't laugh at you.

Ummm... Except for the 100s of studies on medline from peer reviewed journal articles that show clinical correlations between saturated fat intake and health problems such as stroke, coronary artery disease etc etc.

How much fat is too much depends on what your total fat intake for the day is. But 3 yolks is 15g (1TBSP) in that meal. I pref to spread out macros as evenly as i can throughout my meals.

If you are hungry, and your fats are adequate, have some more filling with your meal e.g. Oats, veggies...

You did read the study funded by the Women's Health Initiative puplished in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Right? If you have not read it yet, then I think you should because it will correct your perspective.

The effect of diet on cancer, cholesterol, and other disease is likely to be small for most people because diet is so heterogeneous and the effect of any given food may depend on its interaction with other foods. And the smaller the effect, the harder it is to demonstrate statistically.

Nit-picking the amount of eggs in a meal is silly. Especially when the OP did not list the rest of the diet they are on. They may not get any additional saturated fat.

I eat 5 egg whites and 3 whole eggs everyday for breakfast.

I hate Mercola and think he is an asswipe and he gives me a headache.

I am pretty sure that one of the two will kill me some day.

I'll take the P-Funk route on most days, but might do 4 yolks on days that I'm extra hungry.

Thanks for the information guys, gals.

I am thinking off lowering it to only 2 whole and 7 whites (adding 2). Somethine about if both Jodi and Emma say so, I tend to listen and get scared.

I definitly agree with you on that one, but on this bulk, i'm just going for tons and tons of calories...

Definitly a good call though

why not up the carbs? as above 20g of sat fats in one meal is way too much, how much is 1 cup of oatmeal? i'd be aiming for a good 120grams or so if bulking, i'd add in some fruit in too, and maybe a glass of milk if you are 'still' hungry!
