Hiit

from what i've been reading, they say that you should do HIIT 3-5 times a week. would it be ok to do it once in the morning and once in the afternoon? 20 minutes each session.

thanks

Firstly, if do it properly, you wont last 20mins right off the bat.
Secondly IMO, 2x 3-5times/week is overkill.
Thirdly, keep your training in mind as well. If you are doing something like a full body wo, then 3-5x hiit would be a bit much.

no way in hell i can do 20 min or more of HIIT
the other day i almost puked so i got off the treadimilll for 10 sec
and went back on. 10.0 is my spring and 6.0 is my jog. 45 sec each.
and i do my abs before my HIIT, and only do HIIT once a week

You're supposed to hit yourself in the face while doing the 10 MPH sprint for 45 seconds.

i can do 20 minutes HIIT because ive been an athlete all my life and i guess i just can. i dont see why everyone says cardio 2 times a day is overkill because i could do HIIT twice a day. anyways im just gonna stick to HIIT once a day, in the morning, then weight train after school.

and whats up with everyone saying what i do is overkill? how is there even such thing as cardio overkill? unless maybe i do it for like 3 hours non-stop or something. i dont see how a lot of cardio can be bad at all.

Then you're not performing HIIT properly. If you can go longer than 20-25 minutes, then your recovery periods are too long or you anaerobic intervals aren't high intensity enough.

Properly performed HIIT cardio is stressful on the body; much more so than your typical aerobic cardio session. Performing it 6-10 times per week in conjunction with multiple weight training sessions each week is insane and unnecessary.

ok, here is my 20 minutes:

2 minutes @ 5mph
1 minute @ 6pmh
1 minute @ 7pmh
1 minute @8 mph
1 minute @9mph

back to 1 minute @ 6mph
then to 1 minute @7mph
1 minute @ 8mph
1 minute @ 9mph

then repeat two more times which is 18 minutes

then 1 minute @ 10mph
1 minute cooldown at 5 mph

correct or incorrect?

and by the way there is more than one way to perform HIIT.

True enough, but your way is wrong. A better way would be something like this:

Warmup for a few minutes @ 6MPH. Alternate between 30 seconds @ 12MPH and 90 seconds @ 6MPH; repeat this 10 times. Honestly, I don't know how fast you can run so I kind of pulled these numbers out of my ass. You get the idea though. Using a high exertion to recovery ratio of 2:1 or 3:1 and play with the numbers until you find something that leaves you almost falling off the treadmill after 20 minutes. Or, fuck the treadmill, go run outisde. Sprint for 15 seconds (An all out sprint, complete 100% maximal exertion) and jog lightly for 45 seconds. Do that 10 times give or take a cycle. You will be done, trust me.

This is not right or wrong, this is HIIT as designed by Bill Phillips for the Body for Life program.

Another type of HIIT is where you warm up (say 5 mins) then do 12 - 15 intervals of 20 seconds high-intensity-all-out-gonna-puke-or-die to 40 seconds active recovery (or 30:60 whatever your preference) and then a cool down

As an example, say you use the stairmill:

warmup for 5 mins on Level 2 (nice and easy, could sing a song if ya had to)

Min 1 - 12
20 Seconds at level 12 then 40 seconds at level 2

cooldown for a few mins.

The intensity is relative of course,I prefer to measure intensity by how far up my throat i feel my heart beating ..you should be dying around 20 seconds, if you can do more than the 20, you are not doing it intensely enuff so kick it up a notch on your next interval.

The beauty with HIIT is that it's fast (you're done in less than 30 mins) and you burn so many more calories after the workout (EPOC).

One thing tho, don't do it fasted, you won't have the energy to hit those hi intensity intervals and you risk catabolism.

If you are convinced that it is fine, then why ask???

Seems like if people dont agree with you, you tend to get upset easily.

Some good feedback from CowPimp and Velvet. I did HIIT on the ellipitical. 3-4 mins warm up. 15sec high at 115-120rpm. 45sec low ~40 rpm. Try that and see how long you last.

ill last forever. and i get mad easily because i ask for help or advice and i get bullshit asnwers from people who dont know what they are talking about.

I know what I'm talking about. If you were truly pushing yourself you wouldn't be able to last forever. If you can last for a long time, then turn up the high intensity periods a notch. Keep turning them up until you find a point that does exhaust you.

Posted by: nsimmons

go to a track and sprint 100m full out, then jog 200m and repeat. If you can do that for 25 min, then i'll fly out to you and blow you.

get your plane ticket and mouth ready then

Hmm... is it just me or does BiggT seem like another one of those conceited athletes who don't do things properly and get pissed off when people more knowledgeable then themselves tell them how to do it properly, but will continue to act like they're the best? My school is filled with them mothafuckas. There's no getting through to them so at this point it would be pretty much pointless in trying to give BiggT advice. It almsot seems like he just started this thread to brag about how great he appearently is

Posted by: nsimmons

Yep he can sprint 100m endlessly. Those olympic runners better watch out. They're spent after 1 run, but you can go on for nearly a half hour? good luck.

Posted by: MAC33

Alright... if this guy is as great as he says he is... I'll be alittle more serious here. If HIIT is truly easy for you, I know what will help. I have a feeling someone will dissagree with me but I know it works. Do your toughest HIIT session with a 50 pound backpack on. I've been doin that and its a fuckin crazy hard challenge. But what got me into trying this is something that really amazed me. I was researching into the United States Special Operations branch of the Army and as one of the qualifications they have to be able to run a mile in 8 minutes with 60 pound backpack on. I'm lucky if i don't pass out after 1/2 a mile with the 50 pound backpack on. But yeah, give it try if HIIT is really too easy for you. Works the legs hella good too.

biggt ur fucking dumb

BiggT is a magical athlete who has no anaerobic threshold. He stays in aerobic territory right up to 99% of his max heart rate. Didn't you guys know?
