Gout

I recently had a gout attack that actually hit me in the both knees.

Walking was barely possible with excruciating pain.

Sleep was not possible.

I went into the hospital and took a Uric Acid blood test and it was up to 3 times the normal range.

I've researched ways to prevent gout and ways to fight it once it starts:

Some proven ways:

Pineapple - bromelain is a natural substance that helps.

Cherries

Reducing or eliminating protein (ouch).

Drinking ample amounts of water to dilute the uric acid.

Taking Colchicine (medicine)

Vitamin C supplements: two 500 mg, twice per day = 1000 mg

Tomato based products

Elimination alchohol (beer and wine seem to be the worst)

Avoid eating foods that cause or worsen gout symptons such as gravy.

Staying and increasing activity: walking, weight training, etc.

Anyone else have a recipe or other concoctions?

Gout doesn't just suddenly show up. Its promoted by diet or even supps.

Wanna list your supps for us, and maybe a sample diet as well, please?

Got ta get the cause out before you talk cure.

Thanks for all of the responses, everyone.

Trouble: I have been off-supps for a full year. (Even Whey).

Where do you buy it? How do you take it?

ColdIron:

Are you sure it was the pineapple (bromelain) that made your gout worse? Perhaps the attack had not peaked?

Everyone is different of course, but the bromelain in the pineapple is considered to be good.

My diet: I do believe that I'd been getting too much protein through beef and chicken and I'd also been eating a good amount of shellfish.

I am still working on it, and fine tuning my preventative measure.

Over a long period of time, with chronic attacks, it can cause damage.

Thanks all, and feel free to add anything else you have.

I read the baking soda info.

Is it OK - health - wise - to drink a little baking soda in water?

Thanks to anyone who can help.
