Anyone got some good info on making your own protein bars?

I'd like to make some using whey, oats, and whatever else I need, but I don't have much of any idea where to start...

Here's one for ya:

CRISPY CHEWY CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER BARS

1 cup dried fruit, such as raisins, chopped apricots, cherries and cranberries
1/4 cup chopped peanuts, salted or unsalted
2 tbsp ground flaxseed
Cooking spray
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup honey
1/2 cup natty peanut butter
1/2 cup cocoa

Comine cereal, oats, dried fruit, peanuts and flaxseed in a large bowl that has been prayed with nonstick spray; set aside. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, peanut butter and honey over medium heat. Stir until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in cocoa. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal mixture and stir until evenly coated. Press into a 0x13 pan that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Cool in the fridge or at room temp until set, before cutting into bars.

Hrmm, that doesn't exactly look too healthy to me (mostly the brown sugar and honey)

Plus where's the protein coming from? Just the PB and nuts? I would think whey should be in there somewhere, but then again I've never made protein bars before .

You're probably right.

Here's the breakdown:
Makes 18 bars
201 calories per serving
5.1g fat
38.8g Carbs
2.6g Fiber
3.3g Protein.

You can always sub, I would think -- right?

Nice, might try that one some time. What's the chocolate Met-RX or Myoplex though?

I have made these a good bit. The honey makes them for breakfast only but they are good:

Posted by: Seanp156

Mike, you're cutting, and you're planning on eating protein bars as a regular part of your diet? Not good, I only have them 1-2 times a week when I'm BULKING. Plus, your other meals don't look balanced with fats, carbs, and protein. You might want to start a seperate thread in the nutrition/diet section for help instead of the recipe section.

Hi guys,

I'm about to make my own protein bars but not sure which protein powder to use.

I prefer soya protein the best but it says to consume within 20 mins of mixing.

I'm worried that If I produce a batch they will go bad quickly.

Should I use a different source of protein?
