Need help desigining a diet

I have a very close friend of mine who needs some help organizing a diet.

She is a very, very thin girl but not unhealthy. She has some kind of hypermetabolism. She weighs 87 pounds at 5'2-5'3. She eats, no eating disorders that I'm aware of, but I think she's looking to improve her weight to 100 pounds or so while minimizing fat (although frankly a pound or a few won't hurt her)

I plan on having her train 2-3 times a week with weights, nothing too complicated, 2-3 sets of 4 or so exercises, enough to stimulate muscle growth. She's semi-active, spends a lot of time on the computer and outdoors. I'm no diet expert, I'm not very good at this stuff, her current diet probably has her at sub 1500 calories.

Any help from you experts would be really appreciated. I don't know how to deal with a girl with her kind of metabolism. If she were a buddy I wouldn't have much issue but I've never dealt with a girl of her proportions.

Thanks.

Can you list what she is currently eating?

The first step will be to track what she is eating for at least a week, so you get an idea of where she is at. Then have her raise her calories by 100 per week until she starts seeing some gains (use both measuring tape and scale once a week). Weight training will help a LOT as it will increase her hunger. And, as she is very lean, obviously, no to minimal cardio until she puts some mass on.

I recommend you read through my suggestions on fixing "skinnyfatness" here. Also I have outlined nutritional guidelines in the nutrition section (which I am sure you know most of, but it will help with setting the numbers for a female).
