Frustrated (parents)

My parents are being totally anal about the number of egg whites i eat in the morning. They keep claiming that it is bad for my health, especially for my cholesterol. They think i should only be eating 1-2 egg whites every morning rather than 7-8 (with only 1-2 whole eggs) which is how many i have been eating.

I want to prove them wrong that it's not bad for our health. Are there any relevant studies i can print out to have them read or what should i tell them. I prefer to have factual scientific studies to support my claims because my parents just won't listen to me.

Please help me out here people!

Tell them Vieope said you were right.

There is that study about the cholesterol in eggs not affecting our body cholesterol. That is the only one I can remember.

This is why i love being alone at school. Everytime i am home, they get on my case about these things and question why i eat so much. My dad is already pissed off about the food bill. Even if it's just funny, sarcastic comments to make fun of me .. it's still pretty annoying. When are they going to realize that this is my life and i enjoy eating 6 large meals a day, drinking 2 gallons of water a day, and lifting hard. No, it always has to be "you're taking everything too serious", "enjoy life", "your not going to be the next arnold", comments i hear everyday.

On a side note, a lot of this has to do with the fact that my family generation is known to be genetically skinny. We're all pretty much ectomorphs and some are mesomorphs like my brother for example. So, that means we all can pretty much eat whatever the hell we want anytime we have big family dinners or shit like that and never have to worry about gaining weight. But, i'm the center of attention here because i prefer to eat chicken, veggies, potatoes, fruit, and a large glass of water rather than a double cheeseburger with fries and they just can't seem to get it.

*I know i'm off topic here but i just needed to vent somewhere*

I know about the sarcastic comments bro. My dad would give me crap for how much money I spent on food. Maybe they'll start to get used to it. You gotta explain to them how that crap annoys you. The "enjoy life" comment can really dig into one's patience. Explain how annoying it is and how they should respect your goals and the fact that you are doing something with your life that (while maybe relatively anal) is one of the better things to be really concerned about...your health. Good luck.

My parents were just like this when I was lsing tons of weight. I got down to around 16 percent and they said I have an eating disorder. Thats once I started college I have taken summer classes or had a job so I dont have to live at home. When I come home for a couple of days they dont bug me about anything and maybe throw some cash at you.

to a certain extent they are right. parents will be parents, they want you to live and make sure your bodybuilding lifestyle isn't taking away from anything else in your life. parents will complain regardless, you have to learn to tune them out. shit, instead of arguing with them, just agree with them... it is your life after all and your going to do things regardless of what they say. agree with them, shut em up and do what ya gotta do.

Here is one on 3 Eggs a Day for the Ederly. I know you aren't ederly but figured it would be helpful to prove that if ederly can eat 3 whole eggs a day then you can eat what you are eating: http://www.enc-online.org/pdf/New%20...y%20People.pdf

Here is another on eggs for overweight people. Again, I'm going to extreme here but figured it would be helpful. http://www.enc-online.org/pdf/Dhurandhar%20JACN05.pdf

And lastly one to prove your point and suppor the other 2 docs: http://www.acsh.org/publications/pub...pub_detail.asp

ALL of the fat and the cholesterol contained in an egg is in the yolk.

Egg white has zero fat or cabohydrate. It is pure protein (and I might add perfectly complete with 100% Biological Value rating and 100% Amino Acid Scoring). It is, as a matter of fact, the reference protein against which all other proteins are rated.

Wow, your parents are incredibly uninformed when it comes to nutrition.

Go to calorie king, or fitday.com and look up egg whites and print it out and show it to them.

I see where you're getting at .. but they are happy i chose a healthy lifestyle an d that i am lifting weights to get bigger and accept me for who i am, but they do think i need to relax a little bit and not get so caught up in it all the time .. especially when it comes to nutrition.

I wouldn't go so far to say they are incredibly uniformed about nutrition. Let's be real - what does the average person know about nutrition? Really. Next to nothing. Being uninformed is the norm, most people don't really know or care what they are putting into their bodies.

Well, they are still uninformed. Even if they are not more uninformed then the average person.

My family was always like that, too. I would just blank them out.

Just ignore people like that and keep on doing what you need to do.

I have the same problem. Except for mine, no scientific explanatino would do.
I just gotta ignore them and walk away everytime . You wanna know what they keep on saying to me over and over. "You believe something that someone told you on internet and not your parents", "You follow your internet ways and we will follow ours", and everytime they are making fun of me they bring up the fact that I come to this forum and asked for help when i could be asking them.
Im like WTF?. Get a grip mother fuckers. Im serious, sometimes it pisses me off even when i tell them most of you guys are professionals and know way more then him....and he starts saying shit...
way too much to tell in details...
