In my home state there is a new high school football rule. If a team wins the game by 50 points or more, the winning coach will be suspended for 1 game. There is no concession for they're defense, special teams or jv scoring late to put them over the limit. There is an appeal process, but the school must demonstrate that there was no way to avoid going over the limit
I think this is horseshit! They're trying to protect the kids from embarrasement and hurt feelings. I've played on great squads and lousy ones, and was on the losing end of some blowouts. That made me just practice and work that much harder. And not to mention, coaches need their lower classmen to get work and show them something for the upcoming years. If anything I think its good for these kids to learn how to deal with dissapointment, rather than to protect them from it. And here is the kicker, when figuring the power rankings (which decide playoff teams
) they factor in total points scored and margain of defeat.
... they work hard and deserve to play hard when the time comes. Giving Jerry's Kids a break is the right thing to do but only to a point then it's beyond our right as coaches to ask.|

Whatever happened to divisions based on school size? |
? There are times when there are 6 undefeated teams in a class and the points scored and points against are a huge factor. All I'm saying is that I went from playing on a 1-10 team my sophmore year to playing on a 13-0 state championship team my senior year. and if you ask me, that terrible record year was just as fun as the championship year, not to mention the chip we had on our shoulders playing all those teams that blew us out the years before!

The football roster was about 20 kids. Most played both ways. I remember I came off the field for kickoffs, which were rare. |
