Can't wait for this one!

I got Wright by decision. Not sure if Jermain can penetrate that defense of Winky's. He had a tough enough time against Hopkins and I wasn't so sure he even beat Hopkins both times. I like both fighters though so any outcome I'll be happy with. Both good guys it seems like.

I have Wright by decision, I think Winky will win this fight, but will have a hard time doing so. Steward is training Taylor and Steward knows Wright very well and knows all his strengths and weaknesses, but I don't know if Taylor is a smart enough boxer to take that and use it to his advantage. Just my two cents worth.

Does Winky Wright Have Much Of A Chance Against Jermain Taylor?
14.06.06 - By Goran Dragosavac: On Saturday night, Jermain Taylor (25-0, 17 KO's) will take on Winky Wright (50-3, 25 KO's) at the FedEx Forum, in Memphis. With these two exciting fighters going at each other, the big question is, can Taylor adopt same "no respect" strategy in fight against Winky Wright and dominate his slower opponent? For me, there's no question that Taylor will win against Winky Wright and he will likely win big. Besides being the younger, fresher fighter, the 27-year-old Taylor has multi-dimensional fight skills, that is, he has a powerful jab, good ring movement, solid power in both hands, and he can throw variety of punches from different angles.

With Wright, 34, the difference between offence and defense is clear as daylight; either he is all wrapped up in his defence or he predictably uses jab before stepping and throwing an occasional right hand. While that can work against smaller guys, like Soliman or Shane Mosley, there is no way it will work against a someone of Taylor's size and calibre of fighter. I just cannot see where Winky Wright can have advantage to the extent that I would give him serious chances of pulling the victory.

I firmly believe that in order for Wright to win, he needs to bring into the ring far more than his static defence and excellent jab. No, he must bring speed, angles, lateral movements, and dynamic defence with effective counter punching, and all the rest. Well, this would mean that this would be a version of Winky Wright, which I have never seen before. So, I certainly allow the possibility of being wrong in estimating Wright's chances here, but come Saturday night, we'll know for sure. Either way, good luck to both fighters and let the better man win.

Hell yes! I just watched Legendary Nights: The Tale of Leonard V. Haggler, it was a nice warm up for tonight. I guess they're gonna run the Hopkins v. Tarver replay first. I haven't seen that one yet.

I hope this one turns out to be everything it's made out to be, for free too!

If you have HBO on Demand, there's also a pretty cool "Countdown to Taylor/Wright" special.

Winky Wright-Jermain Taylor: Memphis Weigh-In

16.06.06 - By Wray Edwards: Photos © by Wray Edwards - In a setting reminiscent of the sweltering heat of the Tampa Bay Aquarium Pavilion, where the weigh-in for Jones-Tarver Three was held, WBO/WBC Middleweight Champion of the World Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor came face to face with challenger Ronald "Winky" Wright at the Pepsi Pavilion in Handy Park, Memphis, Tennessee.

Wright (50 - 3, 25 KO's, tipped the scales at a rough-and-ready 159.5.

Jermain Taylor braved the sauna-bath weather to bring it in right on the mark at 160 lbs. as he raised his long right arm in a number one salute to himself..

The undefeated Taylor (25 - 0, 17 KO's) showed the brash confidence which has been his trademark since he wrested the Middleweight title from Bernard Hopkins (07/16/05) and then made it stick in a re-match (12/03/05). His boyish face and high expectations were cheered on by his homies in the crowd who had followed him here from Little Rock, Tennessee. It's almost a home-town venue for twenty-seven year-old Jermain.

Winky Wright has traveled up from St. Petersburg, Florida to invade Jermain's neighborhood. He has also moved up from Light Middleweight having won his last two bouts versus Felix Trinidad and Sam Soliman in the 160 division. The Wright-Trinidad fight was kinda boring as Winky just stood off and chopped Tito to pieces with his points-gathering jabs; sort of a homage to the pop-fest Felix Sturm unleashed on De La Hoya.

The Soliman contest was a different story, and proved to be a real middleweight test for Ronald.

Though Ronald Wright, 34, doubles Taylor's ring experience, Bad Intentions hopes to counter that with the classical skills and tricks of the trade he has learned from Mannie Steward over the last six weeks. Taylor, taller than Winky by two and one-half inches, will bring more action than did Tito and more size than did Soliman.

Ronald Wright was constantly flashing what is arguably the best smile in boxing.

The fight will be presented on HBO's "World Championship Boxing" Saturday night, June 17th at around 9:30PM eastern and 8:30PM central time from the FedEx Forum.

We have heard every possible take on the contest. "It's going to be boring", "Jermain is going to waste his natural a**", "Winky's professional experience will derail Taylor's youthful power and aggression." I have it as a good show if Taylor brings it as bravely as Soliman did. ESB will be ringside to capture the essence of the contest. See you at the fights.

Yeh I watched btoth countdown specials, those are pretty good!

Just watched the Hopkins fight. WOW! Before this fight I didn't want to see it, but Maybe he should consider another fight, maybe Glen Johnson or Jones. Both would be good paydays, and winable fights!

Awesome fight!

Shity 12th!

If there's a rematch and Steward has more time with Taylor, he'll win!

Posted by: TJ Cline

I had it 116 Wright 114 Taylor, I don't mind the draw because it was close but Taylor has 3 gift decisions in a row so I call BS on his title.

Not thrilled with the decision, but I was just happy to see a good even matched fight for a change. Would pay PPV for the rematch. Good fight.

I would have given it to Wright 115-113 if he would have fought the last round instead of bounce around. IMO Wright would have won the fight if he would have fought the last round. Wright should have known better than that, he is too good of a boxer to do that. If they have a rematch I agree with The Nut, Taylor will beat him. I hated the decision, but none the less a good fight and fun to watch.

Posted by: the nut

I thought Wright won as well, but he didnt finish right. He's the challenger and he needs to take the title away! An all out 12th round would have done that. You could see by Taylor's contentment with the draw, that he thought he lost. And I thought Lampley was giving credit to Taylor for a lot of shots that were being blocked, not that that had effect on the judges! When are we gonna get some damn excitement like this in the heavyweight division.

Wright landed more in the 12th, and his punch stats for the entire fight made Taylor look like crap....I think most people who do not know anything about boxing gave Taylor points for punching Wrights gloves....and thats about where 3/4 of his punches landed. It was an easy call, Wright won.

The whole fight Wright had Taylor Backing up, then in the 12th Taylor had Wright backing up. Wright landed more total shots and power shots and a better % of both. Taylor shots that actually got through, were doing damage. Wright's face never looked like that after a fight, and Taylor's face looked pretty clean, other than the swelling from the head butt ! Wright should have won the cards, but I would have liked to see a little more heart from each at the end of the fight!
