I recently took out the banana in my post work out shake, and switched it for quick oats, for a few months to see if there is any difference at all

My breakfast is usually oats, milk, whey or oats, milk, egg whites...Should I add a fruit to my breakfast? If so what should I add? I'm guess I will take away some oats and replace it with the fruit carbs. Or just add them and take them away from later meals. What should I add? Is it necessary to have fruits?

I was thinking maybe adding 10-15g carbs worth of blueberries in my oats every morning?

I am a big advocate of fruit - and, in my opinion, any fruit would be a good addition...!!

But.... To give you some options:
- If you wanted something high with anti-oxidants then blueberries would be perfect...
- Higher glucose fruits such as banana would be especially good if you train close to your breakfast.
- If you wanted something higher in fiber and fructose (slower to digest) then something such as pear, apple, strawberries etc etc...
- If you wanted something that is meant to help with 'fat burning' and carbohydrate tolerance then citrus (esp grapefruit) could be of benefit...

Although some people claim a significant difference, in reality, especially when combined in a meal such as what you are eating, the difference between adding a set no. of calories form berries v's a peach is not going to be noticable.

Well I eat breakfast at 10am, then have a preworkout meal at 1pm...and workout at 2

So would a banana with my oats be a good option for breakfast? Should I opt for ripe, or just yellow?

A banana would be fine.

And the few grams of starch conversion that happens with extra rippening is NOT going to make a significant difference to you... So eat it how ever you find it tastier.

Depends on the ripeness of the banana as to the exact ratio of starch/glucose/fructose etc... But usually they have about the same amount of fructose and glucose.

That is - 100g banana (flesh) has:
90 cal
~23g carbs

Of which:
~5.5g starch
~5g glucose
~5g fructose
~2.5g sucrose (which is essentially 50% glucose and 50% fructose)
~2.5g fiber

~1g protein
