If the ref sees any sign of unconsciousness, it's pretty much over unless you can defend yourself immediately after being knocked down. In boxing, you can get knocked unconscious multiple times, making yourself more susceptible to permanent brain injury after the first time.
I'm sure there are more arm, leg, knee, ect. injuries in MMA due to the different attacks. But boxers are probably more at risk of the more important permanet injuries (head/brain). |

MMA is good about stopping fights, boxing has made some improvements in that area in the last decade. As far as head injurys it might be even or boxing might be worse, but in boxing it is unheard of to have your Radius and/or ulna snapped, or your shoulders dislocated or worse.
