When your significant other eats unhealthy...

I'm sure some of you have ran into this problem.

Here's what I'm faced with. My guy and I are a pretty active duo for the most part. I've inspired him to take training a bit more serious, but I cannot, and I repeat CANNOT get him to eat clean to save his life. I'm not the poster child for fitness but I know plenty based on experience and results, so I'm only trying to steer him in the right direction. - What's a girl to do? I don't want to dump him so that's out of the question. I sometimes think that its hard for him to take advice from me because I'm a woman. *vent* Okay, I'm done. I patiently wait for your responses.

not a lot you can do IMO except eat healthy yourself and maybe he will eventually follow.

oh, if you are not married you may want to reconsider the relationship, if eating healthy and being fit is important to you and not him this could be a life long strain on your relationship.

Slow changes of whats available to eat if you live together would really help break in new diet habits. Instead of getting him regular chips get him baked ones, you know stuff like that.

yeah, you could try that, but if he goes out to lunch every day and chooses McDonalds there is not much she can do.

start with it and when he see's your results .. he'll start doing the same

Agreed.

It doesn't work in my house my husband eats endless shit... I'm sure he'll kill himself with his diet, he does get plenty of protein by way of shakes but they are ALWAYS made with ice cream and chocolate syrup! He never eats fruits or veggies unless they are baked into something and he drinks about a case of diet soda a day. I'm far from perfect but I do know the basics of good nutrition and clean eating, hell I preach it to my clients daily and yet it has absolutely no impact on him whatsoever and it does irritate the hell outta me.

Good luck pinkinmiami.

Same with my wife. The advantage I have is that she can't cook to save her life. (she can boil water, but she calls it soup.) As long as I don't make crap, she is on her own to get it.

But the bottom line is that if your sig other is determined to eat crap, they will do so. I can't stop her, you can't stop him, and that's the deal. And yes, it is really irritating, especially when you are trying to cut and she is trying to cut a pizza.

fuck, try dropping some 200 lbs while married to an "overeater anonymous" who's idea of a healthy meal is McD's without the supersized fries!!!!!!!

She barely eats all day, then has dinner, quickly followed by any and all carbs available : cookies, ice ceram, potato chips, candy bars etc...She is absolutely overweight, has serious health issues because of it , but wont care or do shit about it...Of course, maisn excuse is: I justc ant do it! bl;ah!

U gotta do this for yourself and nooone else...its nto alway fun or easy to watch your significant other pig out while ure munching on chicks tits and lettuce, but we all know its worth it!

Yeah, my girlfriend eats apple pie/ice cream or drinks soda like once a week. It's not that bad and she's not that overweight but she's unwilling to do ANY workout unless I'm there to push her like her own personal coach and trainer. I wouldn't mind doing it because she's my girlfriend, but my own life doesn't give me that time to do that.

It gets quite annoying because between work, family, my own weight training, I have like 3-4 hours to spend with her a day and it's usually at night. By that time, I'm already tired as crap from my workout, I'm already done with my last meal and she's already getting ready to sleep and rest for next day's workday.

You know what's even more annoying? Siblings and parents not willing to listen to your healthy concerns.

...I'm sad now...I don't want my peeps to pass away at 60

I know exactly what you mean as far as our families are concerned. My mother was just recently diagnosed with diabetes. After having a routine check up and blood work they discovered that her sugar was in the high 500's - she could have gone into a dibatic coma, and to add more to it her bad cholesterol was waaaay high. Mind you, my mother isn't fat, maybe a little overweight by 8-10 pounds. But years and years of eating fried foods and sugary crap her body finally said "enough." This type of stuff makes me conscious about my own lifestyle (nutrition/fitness) so to see someone that I care for so much not "listen" does frustrate me. But as most you said there isn't much you can do but hope that they come to their senses, hopefully it won't be too late. Thank you all for your comments.
