Whats your favorite exercise for lat width and mass you can do with a barbell or a pullup bar?

Posted by: Randy

My favorite would have to be the Seated lat pull-in using the V-bar.

2nd would be the One Arm Dumbell Row.

Either way. Change is always good.

Good ol' chinups and pullups with all kinds of varying grips. My lats suck though (Mass wise), so take my preference with a grain of salt.

I enjoy chin ups and one arm db rows.

I prefer widegrip pullups although my lat's are not very strong..

oh yeah and since this is sort of on topic..
chinups means you have your palms facing you and pullups are when they are facing away correct?

Yup. Chins are underhand and pullups are overhand.

Alright and knowing that chins are underhand and pullups are overhand, which variation of the pullup/chinup hits the lats the most and is best for lat mass: cg pullup, regular pullup, wg pullup, cg chinup, regular chinup, wg chinup, or does it not make a difference?

Posted by: Andy_Massaro

I personally like the cg pullup or chin up because it's easier so I can do more reps

Posted by: kenwood

i like wide grip pullups(weighted) best for my lats. and for my biceps i like chinups(weighted) but variation is great. i try to do all kinds of pullups/chinups

I think chinning bar exercises are probably one of the best for the lats, but I sure wouldn't say they were my favorite. I guess having to pull up 250 pounds puts a little difficulty on this exercise for me. I do like to work them in though.. Hopefully when I drop down to 220 this exercise will be more of a favorable one for me . On the other hand though, I guess you might say I have an advantage. I dont' have to add weight for this one. I see most of the lighter guys hanging weight on themselves to do this exercise.

Pullups with a wide grip, where you're adducting your shoulder, should be most effective. This is one of the few exercises where I feel it in my lats; WG pulldowns as well.

My top 3: cleans, one-arm rows, cg weighted chin ups

Posted by: fUnc17

indeed... cleans are very good

Posted by: Andy_Massaro

kind of off topic but func how long have you been lifting?
those are really good numbers for a 20 year old

Posted by: assassin

pull ups / chin ups / bent over rows are the best for your lats ...my pulling is much stronger than my pulling.........one hand db rows come in the next degree .....i also like seated cable rows but not as effective as bent over barbell rows...

Posted by: Tough Old Man

Wide grip pullups or Pulldowns for those that can't do pullups for the upper lats and and lots of rows for the lower lats
