auxilary? and muscle gains

Once again i have 2 questions im curious about that have nothing to do with eachother but put them in the same post to save time:

1) For massbuilding is it better to do more auxilary exercises or should i just stick with basic utility exercises? If auxilary is better, is there a compound auxilary exercise that greatly targets the lats?

2) When trying to muscle build, would u only gain muscle when ur reps and/or lbs lifted increases or would u still grow even if u stuck with the same weight and rep # for a while even if knowing u can do more?

1 - I think the basic compound movements should be the bulk of just about anyone's program, not that you can't supplement with accessory stuff.

2 - You have to overload yourself in some fashion. You could also increase volume (Up to a certain point, obviously) or decrease your rest periods so that you are doing more work in less time.

Im confused, what do u mean my overloading myself and increasing the volume?

By overload I mean you have to force your body to work harder in some way. Why should it adapt if you don't make it?

Increasing volume would be like doing 4 sets of an exercise instead of 3. Like I said, this is limited. You can't increase volume for very long before it becomes too much and you have to unload.

Alright i understand. I've been doing both right now. I prusume my overloading u mean doing 'intense' reps., reaching the maximum potention for a certain amount of reps. For volume, I just do higher sets for the muscles i want most to grow, which would be the shoudlers and back, but I'll start with more exercises.

The volume increase was just an example. I was just listing alternatives to increasing weights or reps (Which are both really increasing volume in a sense anyway).
