Pain in shoulder area

I'm not exactly sure of the correct terms, so i'm going to put this into laymen's: Whenever i push my shoulders forward (making my chest sort of concaved) i get a painful clicking right around my right collarbone area. it's kind of hard to explain, i felt it only two times before, once after doing shrugs, and last night after dumbell military presses. It seems when i round my shoulders forward, i feel this click in my clavicle / collarbone area and it's mildy painful.. this is the best i can describe it. If anyone with some rehabilitative experience might know what the problem could be, please let me know what you think. Thanks.

It sounds like you're talking about protraction your scapula is what makes the clicking noise. Elevating your scapula sounds like it is what caused the pain, as that occurs during both shrugs and overhead pressing.

Have you injured your shoulder before? How long ago was the first time this happened?

Perhaps you should see a doctor?

The first time this happened was last week while doing shrugs, i think i tended to drop my shoulders too far forward (protracting)while doing them, i typically keep my shoulders back with my scapula retracted and then perform the shrug. I felt the clicking while elevating my shoulders in this area. I'm not sure whether i lifted them too high? Though i have never known that to cause any problems with people. I have never injured my shoulders before.

Hrm, I have no idea. I don't know the anatomy of the shoulder well enough to tell ya. I would see a sports medicine doctor.

Sounds like your AC joint. I have the same problem and you can hear the clicking and popping whenever I bench, etc. My AC joint is actually completely gone so the sound is bone on bone, I was scheduled for surgery 2 years ago but held off since the doc says I'd be down for up to 6 months.

AC joint?

The pain is on his back...near the scapula. that is scapular thoracic.

rest, ice, foam roll.

Not much you can do until the pain goes away or, if there is swelling, it goes down.

I hear you P-Funk and you're usually right on everything you post but he did say the clicking noise comes from the clavicle / collarbone area which is where the AC joint is. The same problem I have, hey I may be wrong but sounds exactly like what I have.

yes, the clicking/minor pain is in the clavicle/collarbone area in the front. I'm going to lay off it a little for now, and talk to a physical therapist friend and se what she reccomends.

Avoiding any aggrevating exercises is the best advice with any shoulder injury, especially until you get it examined by a physio.
