35 and older Forum

I don't know if this has been brought up before but an older persons Forum might be a good idea. 35 or 40, whatever, it would be nice for older people to share how the workouts and body have changed over the years. It would also be cool if a older Mod was given that section, just so we had a person who knew what it was like first hand to train at this or older ages.

Posted by: MyK

you wanna be a mod soooooo bad!

Posted by: BritChick

I object to being called an 'older person'!

Posted by: Bakerboy

We should call it Driven...

Only people with Diabetes should help people with diabetes....fuck all the doctors and nutritionists out there that study the stuff...they couldn't know anything because they never had the disease.

Only Doctors who have had heart attacks should be able to assist those who are having heart problems or are the only ones that can perform heart surgery.

Gyms should hire obese trainers to train their obese clients bcause they know first hand what it is like to train and exercise while being obese.

Honestly, does it matter the age of the person giving the information? I mean, would you not go to a doctor who is younger then you just because he is younger? he couldn't possibly know what you are going through with your mid-life crisis........

Exercise Physiology is Exercise Physiology. Exercise Science is Exercise Science. Those that study the subject should be able to know how to manipulate variables to help people of all ages, genders and body types.

Your ageless......we should all be so lucky.

Posted by: GoalGetter

oh man, thank god i'd still have five years left before i would be allowed to post in that forum

all joking aside, i think it's a great idea for the "old timers" to have their own forum.

Posted by: min0 lee

What about a female section?

I don't think that's what he meant, P.

I think he meant more of a "been there, lived through that" common ground, not so much that a younger trainer couldn't design a program for an old timer because they dont' know what it's like. I think (and foreman correct me if i also misunderstood), the idea of the older mod is just to have someone who can relate at that LIFE LEVEL - things most 25 year old, never-been-married, have-no-kids, fresh-out-of-college, no-idea-the-kind-of-stress-that-lies-a-few-years-up-the-road couldn't possibly imagine affecting a person's drive to achieve a goal, or the roadblocks, or the issues of a body that is starting to show some wear and tear, etc.

I doubt it was intended to imply that an older trainer/exercise physiologist/whatever would be better able to design a program for someone of his or her age.

Anyway....

How about a 100 year old and above club?

I like this idea and would support it. There are a lot of middle aged folks, especially men, returning to lifting after a hiatus of a decade or more. Some have been lifting on and off for >20 years. Their recovery, degree of response to training stimulus, and experience is a lot different than your average punk 20 yr old who claims to have been lifting for 8 years (unless you're hardcore like Kefe, half of that time ain't worth shit for experience) and will tell you how to eat, train, and take supplements like they're pros at the game.

I think you could possibly attract an enrichment of >35-yr old forum members, who might look at IM forums more seriously if they had a section devoted to a mature age group. 1. they got the spending power to significantly boost supplement sales; 2. They tend to be willing to share their experience with others of a similar age more freely than they would if they were in an open/mixed forum; 3. They are also looking for motivational support, preferrably from their own age group, with whom they feel comfortable.

Otherwise, they will pass this forum website by, because at first glance, it looks as though its canted towards the younger crowd.

Posted by: Bakerboy

I think there would just be more people who would lie about their age. Hell, for all we know Kefe is 40 and Foreman is 14!

I think a "masters" forum and a womans forum could be a good addition as well.

Posted by: Bakerboy

^ But how would that work? What if a younger person or a male (for the womans section) had something informative to add would they get kicked out. I'm just wondering how it could work. People of all ages have given me good and bad advice.

That is what the moderator is for. If someone gives shitty advice, it is shot down. Just like anyother forum....when kenwood posts something, I reply with "stay in school". That is just a red flag for anyone reading his posts to know "oh...this guy is a moron."

I don't give a shit what you do.

Posted by: Bakerboy

^ True. But it's in Rob's best interest to keep everyone here at IM happy with the site.

I keep posting to you because it is fun. I am just giving you the attention you seek here. I know it makes you feel warm inside because this is your only source of communication with anyone.

I'm not sure I feel this forum would be necessary. We have only a handful of members over 35 so it doesn't seem like a forum that would be put to good use. Same reason why we don't have a womens forum, we don't have the membership count to make it worthwhile.

Posted by: Triple Threat

Is it possible for Rob or one of the mods to determine what percentage of members are over 35?

Personally, I think it's a good idea, perhaps as a sub-forum in the Training forum. Maybe do it as a trial run, and if the response is poor, close it down (somewhat similar to giving IronMan his own sub-forum, although hopefully without as much drama). And it shouldn't be age restricted either, although the younger crowd probably won't find too much of interest, unless they're looking for a glimpse of the future.

Hell, you might even lure Albob and Dero back here.

Patrick humerously postedL "when kenwood posts something, I reply with "stay in school". That is just a red flag for anyone reading his posts to know "oh...this guy is a moron."

LMAO! I've noticed you doing this...thanks for the explanation.

Jodi: Yep, figgered that would be your response.

.
ya, let forman mod it. You got my vote bro

Posted by: dg806

There are quite a few men here over 35. I would guess at least 20-30. Maybe more

Posted by: Prince

I do not believe that either an "over 35 forum" or a "woman's forum" would get used here, and as far as sub-forums, those are never used either, just look at the few we have, they're dead.

Posted by: calalily1972

The thing that doesn't make sense to me the most about this is that it would be our 20 something year old mods that would be giving advice to these 35+ year olds so what's the point of the forum when you can ask the questions in the regular forums already? The only mods we have over 35 is DG and Trouble.

This makes no sense at all to me.

You should have a future banned members of IMerica sub-forum...

I like this idea simply because it could be named the "The Old Bastard Forum."
