Pigskins are being kicked, thrown and carried accross the country. It's time to start a thread for people to make predictions, engage rivals and talk smack. In the end, there will only be one champion.

I'm going out on a limb and picking Michigan. Big Blue doesn't have as much pressure on them as #1 Ohio State. They also are a beneficiary of the schedule this year, not having to play the mighty Boilermakers. Also, watch out for West Virginia. That running back they have is something else.

Thank you, I thought I was gonna be the only one pushing them. Michael Bush getting injured definately threw a wrench into some people's NCAAF engines, but I think this year's champ will come out of the Big 10 or SEC. Tennessee looked strong in their opener against Cal, and once the mighty Wolverines crush the lowly suckeyes, I think they'll gain back their powerhouse status.

Plus Michael Hart will win the Heisman this year.

Michael Hart is a tough kid. I hope he does. Michigan also has a local kid that rushed for more yards than anybody in the history of HS football here. Kevin Grady. I'm starting to think that his cas was just that he was a man among boys at the HS level. He hasn't looked that great in a college jersey (he's a soph now) and he fumbles a little too often. That will get you in the doghouse quick. Hart is a great back. I wish him the best. Of course, I'd love to see my Boilers run the table. But I don't think it's going to happen judging by the D's performance against ISU. First challenge will be ND.

Hows purdue's schedule this year? Our conference is looking tougher and tougher each year, but this year it seems to have eased up. Purdue looks like its struggling, Michigan is recovering from last season's terrible performance, Ohio state lost half their defense, Wisonsin looks gone, Minnesota is unranked w/o Maroney, etc etc etc.

I still think the Big 10 is the toughest conference though and has the ebst shot at the Championship.

Michael Hart has played well when he's healthy, but I didnt know about Grady's HS career, im gonna have to check that out. Michigan RB's have never really gotten their dues though, seeing as how Chris Perry is still riding the Bengals bench after getting very little playing time since his first round selection. (Dumb pick Cincinatti) BTW, what ever happened to that QB you guys had a few years back, where did he end up? He was great.

First off, "you guys" doesn't include me. I'm not a UM guy Though, being from the state, I always root them over Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Indiana.

Great QB (I guess I'm working backwords through your post). Probably Drew Henson. He went and played baseball with the Yankees. Failed. Got picked up last year by the Cowboys and I guess, didn't cut it. I don't know where he is now. Should have just played football from the get go.

Chris Perry never played at Michigan until his senior year. Rushed for a lot of yards that year, but I always questioned whether he could break a tackle in the NFL. Guess not.

Kevin Gradey rushed for over 8,000 yards in his HS career. We have 8 classes of HS football here based on enrollment and he played in the 3rd or 2nd from the top. They went to the state finals at least twice when he was there (east grand rapids)

Purdue will be ok on offense. They have some great weapons at wr and rb, but the qb is a soph and the D is rebuilding. Schedule wise, ND, Wisconsin, Iowa and MSU will be the big games.

By "you guys" I was tlaking about Purdue fans. I'm the resident UM guy.

I think Chris Perry couldve succeeded in the NFL, jsut under a different system. Small but tough as nails, Michigan rushed him 50 times in one game his senior year. I think after his contract expires he has the oppurtunity to excel somewhere, I can see him replacing Dunn in Atlanta.

Sorry. I guess you mean Drew Brees? Or Kyle Orton?

Yeah, he's that kind of back. Like a Kevin Faulk or a Richie Anderson. A role playing type guy.

Posted by: IainDaniel

College football isn't that big up here. But I like always pull for Michigan.

Posted by: Doublebase

PSU or ND? I'm feeling PSU but that's probably because I am from PA and my sis and a lot of friends went there.

Posted by: goandykid

Weel atleast we all agreed on the Big 10

Posted by: boilermaker

OSU vs. Texas, Penn St. vs. ND and Minnesota vs. Cal. catch my interest. I'm going with OSU, Cal and I'm going to root like hell for Penn State.

Posted by: boilermaker

Illinois is getting pounded by Rutgers. Man, they blow!

Posted by: boilermaker

And it looks like they are pretty good

Posted by: Double D

FSU....already got past the first hurdle of the year with a huge win over Miami! Just need to do a better job moving the ball. But they did win the big one this year already.

I'm kind of glad they won. Nothing Michigan would like more than to dash their championship hopes int he last regular season game.

OSU looked good. Man, Gin Jr. is fast as hell!

See what I mean about Grady? I think they are saving Hart for the Big Ten season, but splitting carries like that won't get him to the Heisman.

How about Iowa squeaking?

The thing that pissed me off was that they celebrated so much at the end of that game. they should have been ashamed at taking the game into overtime and making it that close against syracuse. What a disgrace for their program and the BIG 10.

I agree. Not a disgrace for the Big Ten, but certainly too much celebration for Iowa pulling that one out of their ass.

Posted by: boilermaker

Akron wins. It seems the MAC beats at LEAST one big conference team every year. Ball State loses by 1 to Indiana and Miami (OH) takes Purdue to overtime. Should have won, but Purdue blocked a field goal attempt from the 22 with 20 seconds left in regulation.

yea, lol....I thought I would never see the day that Akron would win a (semi) big game (for them at least). Good for them.

Dude, total disgrace for the big ten...look at those other scores....Indiana beating ball staet by 1!! Miami of Ohio taking Purdue....WTF?? They should be romping on these teams.

Yeah, but FSU barely beat Troy. Tennessee beat whatever scrub they played by 1! It's parity, P. That's what makes it great. That's what gives a Purdue a chance to win the Big Ten every so often and a school like Boise State to make a pitch for being in the BCS. Now, when Michigan's 300# lineman put a hand on the ground, they are looking accross at a 300# dude from Central Michigan. Cutting the number of scholorships for division 1-A teams 10 years or so ago has created this, and I like it.

oh don't get me wrong. i love it! the fact that everyone really has a chance is great and to see these 1AA teams play with such heart when they aren't the biggest, they aren't the fastest, they don't have as much scholarship money to offer, and they don't get the most athletic recruits in the country is just amazing!

but, being from Ohio, being a die hard buckeye fan, I have always held the BIG 10 up on the top shelf above every other conference in college football. I love the big 10.

Well, I'm from Michigan and went to Purdue. So, you know my heart is in the Big Ten. I'm just hoping like hell one of us can beat those God *&^% Notre Dame (*(@*&(@*&(. Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue the next three weeks. Here's hoping

I'd love to see the Buckeyes and Michigan come down to their season finale undefeated, sending one to play for the National Championship

Posted by: P-funk

It will be interesting. I don't know that Michigan can go to the National Championship after they loose two games....one to ND and the other to OSU.

Cocky Bastard You are just damn lucky the Boilers are off the schedule for the Buckeyes this year!!!!

Posted by: boilermaker

On a side note, P, I lived with the center on Purdue's football team when I went to school there ('92-'95). Knowing what I know now from this site, I'd love to talk to him about his diet and weight regimen over those years. He was about 240 my first year when he was a freshman and about 295 his senior year. He wasn't fat at all. I saw him at a wedding about 3 years ago and he looked like he was down around 240 again. He looked like a beanpole to me because I was used to seeing this huge guy and he looked so much thinner. He was a decent player. Played 3 years in the NFL before hanging up the cleats because he never saw the field much.

Posted by: P-funk

damn, just saw the highlights from the Clemson/Boston College game. Damn, BC pulled off the one point upset of the 14th ranked team in the country!

Posted by: JerseyDevil

Ohio State looked great last night. Since this thread is dominated by Big Ten fans (where is everyone else? ), you guys know as well as I, OSU has a tough schedule ahead. Going to be hard as hell to run the table. I too, would love to see it come down to OSU/Michigan. Especially cuz Tressell and Smith seem to have Big Blue's number.

GO BUCKEYES!!!

I'm sorry to say but ND is gonna totally fuck up Michigan, destroy MSU and the Purdue game is gonna be a complete joke

ND 56 Purdue 3

Sorry, i'm a huge Irish fan and it's about time they are all hyped up again. It's been a while, shit I can't even remember the last time they were hyped up to win a title. It's been Miami, FSU, USC, Michigan, OK, OSU, PSU and Florida that are always supposedly chasing the title for the last 10 years. I'm just happy to hear my team. And when you are a Bills, Pirates, Penguins and Irish fan you have to be really happy when ESPN starts talking about your team in a good way.

The only teams in the Big 10 w/ a chance for the National Championship are OSU and Michigan, ND is overrated and their schedule is too tough.

Catching up w/ the older posts, I'd definately love to see an undefeated OSU and Undefeated Michigan square off in the last agme of the season. If Michigan gets that far they'd be top 5, maybe top 3, it would eb great.

And Boiler I didnt catch the Michigan game (blackout) so I didnt get a chance to see Grady but I was watching his High School video's, definately a sick RB, I hope he pans out.

Michigan is not going to get past ND, you know it and I know it. I can see OSU making the run but other then that, no big ten team has a chance.

Oh yeah, I don't know if I mentioned this before but THE FIGHTING IRISH ARE TAKING THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR

ND 34 Mich 10

I had ND losing 2 games this year prior to the start of the season. But, now I think they're better than that, primarily due to defense. They kept Johnson in check in Georgia and dominated Penn State. After Michigan, @Michigan State and Purdue stretch they're schedule gets considerably easier (Stanford, UCLA, @ Navy, UNC, @ Air Force, Army) until the finale at USC. That UCLA team could turn out to be good, but that's a weak stretch otherwise. Not to mention they have 8 home games. Michigan State and Purdue are scary, but ND's got some payback to hand out to those 2.

That being said they probably finish 4-8...

Posted by: boilermaker

There's alread a thread about UM/ND. Otherwise, Illinois giving 3 to Syracuse . Illinois looked about as bad as a team could look last week.

Michigan State and Pitt should be interesting. I like Pitt here.

Florida and Tennessee. Tennesee is a home dog (+3). That's always a good game.

LSU and Auburn this weekend, TCU and texas tech i think, nebraska and USC also

Great football weekend

The Sunday day after tmorro has 11 division games, including cowboys and redskins

They are just freakin' terrible. I bet they won't be a favorite against anybody the rest of the year.
