I wanted to thank everyone for all their great posts. I was having a hard time putting on weight, but after changing my routine to focus more on the big multi-joint movements, and limiting my trips to the gym to 3-4 a week, I have really noticed strength and size improvements over the past 3 week
My question now is: how often does everyone train their abs? I have heard everything from "you can't overtrain your abs so I hit them everyday" to only "twice a week".
Just wanted to get some feedback.

a...... i came across an article from a link from ironmaganzine wedpage....
it say train your abs 2-3 times a days.... with repeatation of 20-30 with sets of 4
20-30 do fully compress your abs.... the number don't count it is your quality of the crunches you do that count.

I train mine every day.
My abs stick out because of this.

I used to do lots of sets of 30 reps with no weight... but I've really started noticing beter results since I've started doing lower reps 12-15 with weight and fewer sets twice a week.

I train them for about a 8 weeks pre contest. That’s the only time. Although I try and make a habit of pulling my stomach in as far as i can throughout the day. Its great for the transversus.:

Thanks for the feedback.
I currently train mine 4 times per week for about twenty minutes with no weights. Just to try and "switch it up" I'd like to try your method for a while Quakin, and see what happens.
Thanks Aurexie, I had read this too (that is what lead to this post).
Happy training.

Anyone that trains theirs everyday is overtraining...It is a muscle just like any other. Until you get your diet in line and get the fat out of the way, you can work them everyday and you still won't see them!! I would say 2 to 3 times at most a week is more than enough.....key in on your diet first!!!

Hey, way to bump a six year old thread!
a Ten pack? Thats genetics! Do different angles of ab work for complete definition, I sayno more than three times a week, and set up a diet plan to show what you got. Plus do your core lifts like vader said. End.

You can overtrain abs just like anything bodypart. The abs main purpose is the stabilize the body you can get a sufficient ab workout from cleans, deads, squats, snatchs. And other compounds. The abs secondary function is stuff like crunches therefore they will be worked better in compounds. All I do for abs is heavy compounds and I have a 6 pack.
A belt also increases abdominal work..
... Oh damn that thread's 6 years old haha my bad.

if u people are actually into doing mindless reps of crunches, then im sorry but u are retarded. Crunches get you nowhere. One should have a hard and STRONG midsection and doing crunches is only good for getting a strained back and neck.
