what's the deal with non-fat or low-fat muffins?

I don't know the nutritional breakdown, are they full of sugar and high in calories or could I have now and again>

Cheers.

Usually the fat in the traditional muffin recipe is replaced with either applesauce or fig or prune puree. However, they are usually still loaded with sugar either from "natural" sources like honey or molasses or brown rice syrup or brown sugar or turbinado, etc. No matter what "form" of sugar, it is sugar nonetheless, and the calories will be there.

And there are also some that claim to be fat free/sugar free - in cases like that, you should ask the person what the ingredients are. If they don't know and you have to watch your sugar intake, I'd skip that muffin if i were you.

Use them directly after a weight training workout. I use them in oat bran muffin recipe. Now you can have your er, muffin and eat it too.
