Michell Wie finishes last

Maybe if she focused more on just being the best she can be, and less on "beating the men", she'd do better?

I don't know. She's going to have to drive around in an armored truck when she hits 18 and joins the LPGA. Still, to my knowledge, she hasn't won an event on that tour.

She will never even be competitive at a PGA event. Make the cut? Maybe.

Blah she is 16... nothing really much to read into here.

She has an opportunity to play with some of the best in the world with the PGA might as well take that opportunity, might help mature her mental approach to the game. Who cares about what sex she is, still an amazing golfer.

The only reason she is there is to draw money and tv viewership to the event. It's based on the fact that she is a girl, and that's all. I wouldn't have as much a problem with Annika Sorensam doing it occaisionally because she has won all their is to win on the LPGA.

I don't see how this can help her mature mentally. She is in a pressure cooker the whole event, and it's mostly negative pressure. She is facing unrealistic shots that she has to make all the time to accomplish what? Just to play on Saturday and Sunday. You have to accomplish some positive things to grow mentally.

Michelle Wie is an amazing golfer relative to girls her own age. That's all. She has never won anything on the LPGA Tour. And while she plays these little games, some guy who needs the money has to sit home and watch her because she has his spot.

Maybe he should practice a little more so he isn't a borderline player, that gets beat out by sponsor exemptions.

Everychance you get to play with someone better then you will have a positive impact on your outlook on the game.

Is she overrated, only time will tell. But her managers have done a good job marketing her.

Maybe the guy getting bumped by a woman should be allowed to go play the LPGA event that week and rake in some cash. Seems like a fair tradeoff.

Yes, playing with people better than you helps, to an extent. After a time though, wouldn't you worry about negative reinforcement. She's a kid, not a woman. I'm suprised she holds up as well as she does. She's very composed and well spoken.

Yes, her dad has done an excellent job of marketing her.

I agree with that. I see no problem with a man playing in the LPGA as long as women want to play in PGA. I guess this would be the issue if you like being a second string golfer who can't and isn't willing to fight to make ends meet in the PGA

Agreed about she is very well composed. It will be interesting to see how she holds up later in life missing out on these childhood experiences. For whatever reason these child stars, always seem to breakdown.

You have to be kidding, right? If you have a PGA tour card, that means you are within the top 120 golfers (male) in the entire world. How much more do you need to practice and sharpen your skills in order to not be shafted by a high school hottie that can hit the ball in the fairway most of the time? That's a riddiculous arguement, Ian.

Remember this is a business.

Life isn't always fair in the business world. Either do enough to make yourself valuable enough, or be shafted by others that will bring in the bucks.

Pretty simple.

It may be a ridiculous argument, but unfortunately it is true in both sports and the business world.

Top 125 on the PGA Tour keep thier cards. Not 120. She should be playing on the LPGA and not the PGA. The Sony Open was fun to watch and ok, but it getting out of control. She takes a spot from a PGA tour player that has earned the right to be out there playing trying to make money to keep his card. There are only so many events each year to make enough to stay. I don't think she should be allowed to play anymore events on the PGA Tour. Unless she wants to go through the tour school and try to get her pga tour card.

So should all sponsor exemptions and amatuers be not allowed to play in the pga tour cause they will have an impact on the top 120's earnings?

Of course not, sponser should always be allowed to have exemptions they are the ones putting up the money. However, the spots should be resevered for pga tour players or members. Amatuers are rarely given a sponsor exeption. Almost all amatuers you see in a pga event have quilified in someway to play that week and that is fine. If they earned the right to play that week then they play. She has not earned the right to play out there as much as she has.

Unfortunately that is not the case with sponsor exemptions. This is a business and the PGA has to see that. So the sponsor will invite the biggest draw.

I know everything is about the money. The man with the gold makes the rules it has been like that forever and always will be. Her dad has done a great job marketing her to make money not be the best female golfer in the world though.

It's all about the money. A woman cannot compete with the men. Physically improbable. They just don't have the clubs to score well. You can't spin the ball well enough to give yourself enough legitimate birdie opportunities with longer irons than your opposition is taking to the green. And you can't recover from mistakes off the tee. Simple facts. Go play with the girls. If you can own them, then come back and take a shot or two at making a cut at courses that are set up the best to match your short game. Don't come out and say you want to play at The Masters some day, because you couldn't possibly compete. And certainly don't say you want to be a part of the Ryder Cup Team. Everyone thinks she's great, but, she has a chance to be great versus the women, and that's all. There is one event she could play in with the boys. The par 3 skins game. That's it.
