Well, we all have heard that too much protein is bad for your kidneys, but I'm not going to discuss that. The thing is that I've increased my protein take, and in general my food intake, but I'm kind of confused. When they say too much protein is bad, do they mean protein from any source or they just talking about protein you get from supplements?

Supplements obvisouly help you grow but they're man made, so you don't want to much of that. And meat is acidic (especially beef) so you don't want to much of that either.

Protein is protein theres no way to divide it. But the other things that come with that protein (sat fat, trans fats, and things of that nature) are what you should be aware of.

I think I learned in biology class that there are 7 different types of protien or something like that.

...

There are over 400 000 proteins.

.

Whey protein is the by-product of cheese making. There's very little "man-made" about it.

Living tissue is at a ph of 7. It falls to about a 5.5 at slaughter. You limit red meat because of saturated fats not acidity. Once the meal is combined the pH is the end product of the combined meal (much like GI).

There are a lot more proteins than 7. Look it up. There are 1000's and no complete answer.

Beef is one of the most anabolic foods. It's also one of the most slowest digesting proteins. It's one of the most perfect protein sources.

Yeah, I was refering to supplements like xyience and things like that, not protien powder.

Beef is highly acidic, so too much is bad.

Why do you think acid is bad?

Dropping a 5.5 pH peice of meat into a 2 pH stomache acid solution isn't bad for you.

Beef is the most acidic meat there is. Randy Couture is on the alkaline diet (more greens, less meat) and said that put him in the best shape of his life. I'm not saying don't eat beef though, just keeping that in mind.

Hodge Podge! Give me case studies if you want your claims to be taken seriously.

Posted by: crazy_enough

gonna take one major ass study to get me off my beef addiction!!!!!!

Posted by: Flakko

Well, I like beef and since I started my new diet I increased the amount of it I eat per week. I used to eat mostly chicken and tune everyday, but I'm tired of tuna and I eat chicken like 2 times a week. I wanna start eating more fish, but I still have to learn how to cook it.
But with my question what I wanna is that if I eat lots of protein from natural sources is it still bad?

Back it up with some real science....not some herbalist mumbo-jumbo site. Show a study that actually tested body chemistry, did some acutal baseline analysis and is peer-reviewed and we will give it some credibility. What you posted, backs up absolutely nothing.

Maybe this will help shed some light on the subject at hand:

It's a really good read!

I'm not saying don't eat beef, I eat it all the time. I'm saying beef has an acidic affect on the body, that's a fact. Even Randy Couture is on this type of alkaline diet and he said it made him in the best shape of his life.

And by the way, beef is jacked up with growth hormones and other things which make you fat and is harmful to your health so it's better to eat it organic.

Gordo thanks for the link. It's very interesting and useful.
I'm going through it right now.
Thanks again bro.

What does Randy Coutures Nutritional understanding have to do with anything.

He fights. He isn't a Registered Dietician

Hi Flakko,

Total protein intake. Most say 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight is best when working out. I know of no one that has had problems with staying within this range. So if you weigh 100 pounds you should consume 100 to 200 grams of protein per day.

Some have problems with protein intake - drinking apple juice and eating apples will help along with other fruits.

Take Care, John H.

Thanks John.
Right what I'm doing is getting most of my protein from foods. I reduced my protein supplementation to 2 scoops of whey per day and 1 serving of muscle milk (that's the one I have right now). The rest I get from mostly beef, chicken, some fish, peanut butter, milk, eggs, and cottage cheese.
