UFC 65: NOVEMBER 18 IN SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA

-Matt Hughes (#1 Welterweight in the world)* vs. Georges St. Pierre (#2 Welterweight)* --- provided that both fighters are healthy

-Tim Sylvia (#5 Heavyweight)* vs. Jeff Monson
-Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir
-Mark Hominick vs. Joe Stevenson
-Nick Diaz (#10 Welterweight)* vs. TBA
-Michael Bisping vs. TBA

(Note: Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva, which was originally announced for UFC 65, is off. The UFC did not have a signed contract with Pride when the fight was announced in the Octagon during the UFC 61 event, and negotiations between Zuffa and DSE fell apart shortly thereafter. Silva's loss to Mirko Cro Cop on September 10th has nothing to do with the Silva-Liddell fight being off, as it was off several weeks before that.)

Nice, I've been interested to see if Monson would get a title shot.

FINALLY! Gives Tim Sylvia some real competition. Although the reach disadvantage for monson is insane... if he gets sylvia on the ground... that's all she wrote, son.

Wow, that actually makes 2 things we've agreed on in the last week.

What the fuck is the world coming to?

Beats me, but after that card we should have 2 new bald champions.

True Story, I think you like me.

Posted by: bigss75

Monson is good but I still think Syliva will take him, Id like to see that Vera kid versus him or the pitbull

I'd actually like to see Vera drop to 205 like he said and take on Chuckie.

I have a hard time picking because that reach advantage is insane.. but so is the ground advantage and I think monson has a decent chin.

Monson is such a nasty grappler... and he is way stronger thah Sylvia, even though he is like 10 inches shorter. Wow, I can't wait to see what the height difference looks like.

Posted by: AKIRA

It would be nice to see some better champs. Not their talent, just who they are. I never liked Hughes or Liddel. Tito is ok now. Was he ever champ? For how long?

Posted by: BigDyl

Monson's strategy should be to keep his chin tucked hardcore, and take sylvia punches if they hit, to the top of the head... he can then drop in for the single/double leg takedown. Sylvia will either sprawl or get caught. I can't see sylvia working much on the ground.

I'm not even going to talk about hughes versus gsp.

I don't like Hughes or Lidell either... obviously.

You guys think Mir has a shot to get back to the top, or is he all done since the injury? I loved to watch his old fights, he has great submissions.

No, because the last two fights Mir literally gassed in the first round. Hell in the first minute of the fight, and looked hung over.

Vera will handle him easily.

Yeah, as soon as he gives birth he should be ok. Did you see his gut that last fight?? I think the heavyweight division is weak enough for him to be a contender, yes, granted he loses 40 lbs.

Posted by: BigDyl

IMO, this time next year I believe we will have gone through 2 new HW UFC champs.

Posted by: BigDyl

Ok, the height advantage is more than I thought.

Monson is 5'9, and Sylvia is 6'8-6'9. That's like a 1 foot height advantage...

Monson is 5'9, 240.

Posted by: BigDyl

Monson has won his last 14 fights in a row. Won all fights since 2002.

Tito was light heavyweight champ for 3 years or so... he beat Wandy to win it, then lost it to Couture.

Chuck has beaten him the past, right?

Lost to chuck in 2001, and griffin in 2002. He has gained alot more weight since then, and better technique. All losses went to decision.

Forrest? I didn't know that. Monson is jacked now. What's his fighting weight 225 or so?

I'm pretty sure he's closer to 240, at least that's what they say.

Posted by: bigss75

I want UFC to pull their head outta their ass and sign Mayhem Miller and get maybe a Miller vs a Diaz/Sanchez

Posted by: Goodfella9783

Good card. Surprised Hughes is fighting again so soon. Real champion right there.

Posted by: Double D

I would like to see Mir back to his old self before the accident. He didnt impress me at all in his last fight! On my card he actually lost, but I think the judges gave him a sympathy win!

You haven't noticed an increase in fights lately? That's dana trying to milk his cow for everything it's worth.

That's a great card right there... The Liddell-Silva fight would have made it worth paying for!

Hell yeah, but not for long...

Yeah they've definately upped em this year. Now they're like every month where they used to be every 3 or 4 months. I just think it's crazy Hughes is fighting again so soon. Title holders like Liddell and Franklin usually only have about 2 fights a year. And theyre usually spread apart by like 5 months.

Posted by: 911=InsideJob

I think GSP and Silva are gonna be the winners. (depends of if Monson could take down big ass Silva). If the old Mir shows up, he's problably gonna win. If the Mir from the last fight shows up, he's gonna lose.

Posted by: Pedigree

The Liddell/Silva fight is off because Tito is gonna beat Chucky's ass December 30th.

I wish that was true...

Positive thinking man!
Seriously, I honestly believe that. I didn't for their first fight, but I do for this one. Chuck is going to the mat and he's gonna eat some elbow ala cart.
You know Dana wants Tito to win.

Posted by: the nut

Not a chance, Tito fears Chuck.

If that were the case it would be perfect, both coming off a loss.

This is true. You can see it in his face.

First fight, he did look intimidated...no doubt. Tito was a fool for trying to stand with Chuck, and I think once he got rocked he realized it was a very bad idea...too late & lights out.
I'm telling you guys though...it will be different this time around. Chuck will be on his back in the first round.

Posted by: Goodfella9783

I definately think their next fight will be a good one.

Posted by: fufu

Hmm, this one might be worth watching.

I agree. Tito is training his ass off for this. He wants that title.

If that happens, I'll be surprised. He may be ready, but I haven't seen it in his last few fights. Split decisions with Griffin and Belfort, and the Shamrock pounding. If he can take the fight to the ground, he can definitely win. But, Chuck's takedown defense is great. And yes, Tito was intimidated going into the first fight and got knocked out, that can't be good for his confidence.

So I was listening to bubba the love spounge on Sirius today. Tito/Chuck is already signed, but apparently there is meant to be another fight between this tuesday and the Chuck/Tito Fight for Tito.

I guess there is an agreement for a boxing match 3 rounds 5 mins between Dana and Tito

? You mean Ken/Tito?

Posted by: tucker01

Nope Tito is meant to have a PPV boxing match with Dana White. Sometime between the Ken fight and the Chuck Liddel fight

I'm so confused. Tito is going to box Dana White on PPV? Are you kidding me?

Wow, you weren't joking.

Yeah apparently Dana was a good amateur boxer and has been training religiously for it.

Posted by: Double D

When is this suppose to be?

Posted by: 911=InsideJob

Also, the boxing match between Ortiz and White was added to Ortiz's contract because the 2 of them HATED each other for a while when they had that whole falling out.

Tito was saying that was a big act just to drum up ratings.

WWE????

From Sherdog's Play-by-Play, after the Josh Barnett win:

PRIDE middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva makes his way to the ring. He thanks the American fans for their support, then challenges Chuck Liddell to lace up the leather February 24 on PRIDE’s second USA show.
