i usually take 3-5 min rest period. now i heard this long rest period is used when training for strength but can i still get big with this rest period or do i need to shorten it up?

I think so, sure. It isn't optimal, but it isn't worthless either.

I think the diet is more important than ur resting intervals. IMO

why do you rest so long if you train for size? Does it take you that long to recover? Do you train to failure on every set or something?

You can just switch your RI's up now and then for a change.

1-2 minuts is better

Resting 3-5 min shouldn't be needed unless you're lifting in the 4-6 rep range all the time. I usually don't rest longer then maybe 2-3 min if doing heavy squats, bench or DL most other exercises I rest 1 to1 1/2 min.

they say 60 sec is best for hypertrophy ... i think if you can't lift so heavy at 1 RI then increAse it to 90 sec ....
i'd say
60 sec for 10 reps at 12 RM
2-3 sec for for 4-6 reps at 8 RM

My rest periods vary because I train with someone - so it depends how quickly we recover and get through the next persons set etc - but I still get consistent gains - Keep an eye on it but I wouldnt over fret. Just IMO
