UFC 65, who wins?

I like GSP and Monson to make it 2 UFC's in a row where 2 new champions are crowned.

That would be crazy: 4 New title holders in one month. Sherk, Silva, Monson & GSP. I'm goin Hughes/Sylvia. The only way GSP will beat Hughes is via KO and I don't see it happening. I think Sylvia/Monson will stay standing and Sylvia will KO him or win another decision.

I agree with these picks. I think Sylvia is a much better fighter then Monson. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see an upset. Hughes is just an animal. After seeing him fight BJ Penn I don't see anyone beating him for awhile. Diego needs to get a shot soon after he fights some better opponents. Maybe GSP after he loses to Hughes.

Yeah Diego/Hughes would a be a great fight. If anyone, I think Diego would give Hughes a run for his money. He has great strength, ground and pound & a heart as big as Hughes'.

I see Tim breaking his hand on Monson's head before knocking him out, and we all know what Monson can do on the ground. I have a sinking suspicion Silvia is taking this fight too lightly. He looked like he was 280+ at the Franklin fight. As for the GSP/Hughes fight, I see GSP going balls out coming out with an impressive stoppage. At least I hope!

I don't know between Hughes and GSP but I give Hughes the edge. I think Monson is going to manhandle Silvia

I would like to see Hughes get KO'ed or submitted but I just don't see it happening.

Did anyone catch the Matt Serra vs Shoney (forget last name)? It was a great fight. Serra will be a big threat at 155 IMO.

Yeah I saw that. Both fighters impressed me. Serra is an animal and Shonie is pretty crafty and unpredictable. I'd like to see more of them in future PPV's.

It was funny that he almost got caught with the spinning punch again

LOL

He did get caught with it.

Man, I thought that fight was gonna be over in the first few minutes with the was Serra took his back so easily.. Serra defintely deserved the win though.

You're calling Sylvia short...

no he's calling Matt Hughes short.

I think Hughes is finally going to lose his belt, not sure how though. KO, sub or decision are all very possible in either direction in that fight. Should be good.

As much as I would like to see Sylvia lose I have a creeping feeling that he will win a split decision

I hope Hughes dies from his injuries

As much as I couldn't care for Hughes. I don't see him losing.

But I will be supporting the Canadian.

He doesn't get injured. He only injures others like he did to BJ Penn.

Seems like BJ injured himself while taking Matt's back

Sylvia easily & GSP by stoppage.

Dunno, I'd like to see him fight one more before he gets a title shot. Although beating Karo is a big accomplishment.

Diego Sanchez has a killer ground game ... I really like Sanchez ... but he is still the same ol' Barney Fife on his feet. 16-0 ... yup. Good record ... versus mostly chumps and all his KO's (4) were on the ground. I like Sherk ... he has the balls to bring his A game every time he hits the show, and he will not puss out ... he just keeps on coming.

My pic's are GSP, Monson.

GSP is gonna KO Matt Hughes. His stand up is better than anything Hughes has dealt with to date and won against. Penn rocked Hughes, as has most peeps that have fought him, but GSP will not let Hughes survive the way the rest did. If Penn had not gassed he woulda beat Hughes. Yeah yeah yeah Penn had a busted rib but were talkin' about Penn here ... he is one tuff lil' sumbitch. Penn only lost cuz he gassed and GSP will not gas. Thank God ... I won't have to hear "A country boy will survive" as much any more. As long as GSP avoids the armbar ...

Sylvia will have a very short shelf life as champ. His belt is up for grabs to the first guy who can step in the ring and connect. As a big guy he has crazy power, but ya gotta have more than that to hold the belt ... ya gotta have a stout chin. Sylvia has tendency to take naps from the slightest of taps. At 6' it will be tough for Monson to connect with a 6'5" Sylvia standing, but Monson was the shiznit in abu-dhabi. On the ground he will smash Sylvia's face so bad his own momma won't recognise him.

Silva has no threats at 185. His Muay Thai/Jiu-Jitsu/Brazillion Jiu-Jitsu are a killer mix of styles that nobody in that weight class can cope with. He should change his mailing address to the Octagon cuz he gonna live there for a looooong time. Any MMA fighter is a role model ... and any fighter who ends his post fight interview with a comment for the kids "... to stay in school and stay outta trouble" is a class act in my book.

We need to all keep this in perspective though brothers ... cuz basically UFC sucks. When Hughes is in trouble no fights get stoped, other fighters vs Hughes get in trouble and the ref is in there to "protect the endangered fighter's welfare". Pride does not suck ... Pride fighters in each weight class would own UFC ... and so would the ref's. True story ...

About the fights. I think Hughes could pull a lay and pray. GSP is clearly the more talented fighter. More talented doesn't mean you will win though if your opponent works some cheap lay and pray or stalls, or has the refs on their side.

Sylvia could win with his almost 20 inch reach advantage.

I think the only way Monson will win is to take it the ground. You can't stand with someone a foot taller than you and expect to land a lot.

I agree with you on every point except one. That the UFC sucks. This is a subject that is over debated and well frankly, sophomoric. They are 2 very different organizations, with 2 different rule sets, even 2 different fighting surfaces. Only dim witted fools like BigDyl and company continue to bring this up for discussion and frankly I see it as trolling.

Silva is without a doubt a head above the rest when it comes to the 185 lb. division in the UFC. However, that division lacks a true ace at the ground and pound game. Rumor has it that Dana White is working on bringing Matt Lindland back to the UFC. If that happens, the chances Silva's potential long title run has diminished 10 fold.

I'm am almost positive GSP will take the title away from Hughes. We know he's more talented all around, he's quicker, and if he worked nearly as hard as we all know Hughes did in preparation for this fight, GSP is the new Champion.

I favor Monson in the HW match up but do not underestimate the power of Silvia's hands. Monson has a tested chin going the distance with one Chuck Liddell a few years back, and we all know what he is capable of on the ground, but Silva does have 1 hit power. Monson is an experienced boxer so expect him to be able to handle what is thrown at him, expect a take down early, and expect total ground domination for the win.

Although Diego has fought a few cupcakes, he does have wins over Nick Diaz and always impressive Karo. I don't know if I've ever seen a fighter with such elusiveness on the ground, and body control when he finds himself on top.He seems to have the knack for doing just enough to win the fight, which is more impressive to me than going out there and dominating. It shows me he can work out of any trouble thrown at him. One more match and I'd like to see him in a title fight.

So there you have your debate. Whoopty doo.

Diaz is a bitch and someone I like to see lose not just cuz he has the attitude of an asshole but also cuz he likes to use his skills outside the ring at the slightest provocation. He does have good skills in the ring, but Sanchez schooled him when they met at UFC. I enjoyed that fight tremendously.

We agree so there is no real debate open. As far as sophmoric I was just tryin to add a lil humor, not offend. Sorry bout the UFC/Pride thing but I'm not in here much over the last year so I missed the over-kill on that.

I figured, none taken. Like you said, it's been played out on all the forums I'm on, especially this one. On the one MMA forum that I like the most, the mods will just delete any post pertaining to the subject.

Yeah they should've saved Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonner for the last one. That was easily the best fight of 2005.

The fight with Sylvia vs. the one-peck guy was interesting. I remember that guy from the older UFCs.

I swear watching Sylvia and picturing a champ is sad. Theres gotta be someone out there with a better reach or someone that can take his.

I want to see some Monson (sp?) fights to see how good he is..

I could care less. I became a Sylvia fan when Mir broke his arm and he refused to quit. Not the best fighter, but a lot of heart and toughness.

Besides looks mean nothing... Who looks like the champ in this pic? Certainly not the guy with the love handles and titties. But he is the baddest mutha fucka on the planet.

Possibly, but his height may fuck him. Either way, he could fit the part. I really cant say. I saw him fight in..I think the 2nd tito vs. ortiz fight? Well one of the pay per views around that time was the only time I saw him fight and I wasnt that impressed. But that was just one fight.
