Just heard on the radio that a Philly newspaper is reporting the Red Sox are about to sign JD Drew to a 4 year, $48 million deal. The Sox need a right fielder since Trot Nixon was not resigned.

Damn, yo. Go Sox!

overpaid for RF. Atleast he's a good notch above Manny's speed. Manny likes to stop and see what the ball eats before fielding it.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Manny certainly has his gaffes in left field, but overall he is a very underrated fielder. He's got a strong accurate arm and gets to more fly balls than you realize. He's been among the leaders the last few seasons in left field assists.

True, but everytime one sneaks down the line I feel like I'm about to witness an inside the park home run.

How's Drew's arm?

He's a Gold Glove caliber fielder with a cannon for an arm.

Good. Check the Matsuzaka thread(sp?). I'm a long-time Red Sox bandwagoner, not gonna lie, no family ties or anything. I jsut really hate yankees and my nats cant win. But before the Nats were born, the Sox were my one and only.

Posted by: goandykid

Thats right, I said it again Min0. I hate them.

Posted by: Triple Threat

goandykid, this one's for you.

Of course he leads in assists, that because everyone runs on him expecting to get a extra base while he takes out that water bottle from his pocket and drink from it and then hit the cutoff man.

haha, how'd you come up w/ that idea?

Posted by: min0 lee

Well the Redskins are a good franchise even though that new owner is wacky...... The Katia7 thread shows that you have some style.

I under stand your frustration here. The Sox are set to add JD Drew and Daisuke Matsuzaka while the Yankees have lost Gary Sheffield and Jaret Wright. But please, don't take your anger out on Manny, especially since he'll be on the Yankees eventually.

Well I'm pretty sure baseball is the only thing we differ on. Immigration and other sports are fine, but seriously, Yankees

Posted by: min0 lee

Ahhhh yes.......I can understand why everyone hates a winner....

Your all jealous haters!!

Posted by: goandykid

I jsut hate NY teams in general, we've covered this.

With hate there is love behind there, somewhere.

How can you hate the Derek Jeters, the Joe Torres, the Lawrence Taylors, the David Writes?

The Yankees had a lot of homegrown players during that championship run, and the Red sox world series team were pretty much not all homegrown.

The direction Boston is going is up....and I don't like it. Boooo!

HAha, Torre does look like a bloodhound and that LT hit was brutal...ouch.

Jeter is a God

Posted by: goandykid

Yea but I repect LT b/c he didn't do al ame Philly jumpshot sack dance. He called the medics over ASAP and freaked out.

He had his best year last year and it wasnt that great. He was suppose to be some fantastic player and he hasnt even did anything, but sit on the bench crying about an injury. I dont care where he goes, just as long as the Cards dont get him back!

I was going to ask you about him, since he played at St. Louis.

Why did he leave St. Louis?

Posted by: Malley

He couldnt get healthy. They traded him to the Braves for Marquis, Ray King, and Wainright (Spelled that wrong).

Posted by: min0 lee

Great scouting report, so far you have been right.

This is good news.

Posted by: Malley

Of course I am right, when have I been wrong?

Wasnt I the one that said the Cards would win it all? And low and behold they did?!?!

Yes....we know.........

I heard this on ESPN today. All conjecture by the experts, nothing confirmed.

LA Angels are interested in Barry Zito, Alfonso Soriano and JD Drew.

Zito - 7 yrs, $100 M
Soriano - 5-6 yrs, $14-15 M per yr
Drew - 4 yrs, $56 M

Posted by: Malley

Why in the hell would you pay Zito that? He really hasnt proven anything to me. He doesnt pitch well against good teams, and hes so hit and miss. I wold much rather have a power pitcher.

Major league official says Soriano, Cubs agree to 8-year, $136 million deal

By RICK GANO, AP Sports Writer
November 19, 2006

AP - Nov 19, 5:04 pm EST

CHICAGO (AP) -- Memo to the National League. The Chicago Cubs mean business.

The team without a World Series title since 1908 has tackled the offseason with a fury and is on the verge of landing Alfonso Soriano, one of the game's top offensive players.

Soriano has agreed to an eight-year contract worth about $136 million, a major league official told The Associated Press on Sunday.

The deal is contingent on Soriano passing a physical, according to the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been announced.

General manager Jim Hendry declined comment Sunday. But earlier he made it clear that the Cubs, who finished 66-96 last season for last place in the NL, were going to be major players in the market.

"We won 66 ballgames. We darn sure better be aggressive," Hendry said.

If completed, the Soriano deal would be the fifth-largest total package given to a major league player, behind Alex Rodriguez ($252 million for 10 years), Derek Jeter ($189 million for 10 years), Manny Ramirez ($160 million for eight years) and Todd Helton ($141.5 million for 11 years).

Soriano, who could play center field and give the Cubs a leadoff hitter with a combination of speed and power, had 46 homers and 41 stolen bases last season with the Washington Nationals. He batted .277, had 95 RBIs and had 41 doubles.

Me too, I would like to see them win one finally.

Posted by: goandykid

Yea, plus Piniella in a cubs uniform is classic. Legendary coach, legendary club. Maybe Fons will be that one player.

Wont matter for the Cubs, still wont overtake the Cards in the Central. Cards for the champs in the central yet again. Cubbies stil hurting in the picthing department.

You may be correct, but the Mets shall win the NL crown this time.
