Your friend has a lot to learn. Do you eat on days you don't workout?

That's absurd, your body is in recovery mode on days off, thats one of the most important times to make sure you get enough protien.

Protein supplements will not make you gain fat, if thats what he's basing his claim on.

A balanced diet.

Same as you should any other day. Make sure you get enough meat (protein) vegs, and complex carbs.

well how much protien shuld i hav a day?

Posted by: BringDaBlitz94

and if i take protien on off days, wont i gain alot of fat since i wont b doing any excercises on off days?

Protein doesn't make you fat, excess calories over a large period of time makes you fat, if your body is consuming more calories than it is burning then it will store the excess. If your really worried about it start counting your calories, but theres no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't be taking protein supplements on a day off. Just because your not excersizing that day, your body still needs calories/protein!

If you are trying to gain muscle mass the general guidline is 1 - 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day. Some go as high as 2.

I don't know what you weigh, so I can't say. I weigh 175ish, so I always make sure to clear 200 grams a day. Prefferably more.

Whether or not you need to supplement on off days depends on if you can get all your required protein from real foods.. Personally - I believe real foods are better -they not only offer the protein but also help with things like vitamins, minerals, other nutrients AND have a better effect on satiety (plus - I like to eat ).

And, as it was said, excess calories make you gain fat - NOT excess protein....

ooo...well how many grams of fat do i need daily? sumone told me 25g while others told me 60g

Posted by: IainDaniel

ideally 25-30% of your total cals.

Posted by: BringDaBlitz94

i see....so calories create fat more than carbs rite?

Posted by: IainDaniel

carbs are a source of calories just like protein and fats.

Calories are a measurement of energy. Your body needs so many calories(energy) in a day to function.
