"I think (being a reliever is) a little bit, I won't say counterproductive, but I think I'm best utilized as a starter," said McCarthy, who has worked out four hours a day in Arizona this offseason, has gained 10 pounds of muscle and said he's in "the best shape of my life."
Can anyone please tell me how working out four hours per day, every day regardless of what it is you are doing wouldn't result in overtraining?

It'll be interested to watch Brandon McCarthy this year. That's for sure.

I'd like to know what the 4 hours consists of. Is it 4 hrs of lifting weights, or is it split between weights, running, stretching, maybe even doing some throwing. If he's not working, he's got plenty of time to train, eat, and sleep.

Another thing to consider is how long has he been doing it. Perhaps someone could get away with that much training for a short time (a couple of months), but if he tried to do it for an extended period, say 5-6 months, it would have a detrimental effect.

D) Lie about everything, someone will believe you and it's a good marketing tool for when you retire to start marketing the "pitching arm blaster" on late night infomercial TV shows.
