UFC president Dana White announced today that Georges St. Pierre would defend his welterweight title against Matt Hughes April 7 in Montreal at UFC’s first Canadian Pay-per-view.

The welterweight combatants first met in Oct. 2004 in Atlantic City, where Hughes won by submission with one second remaining in the opening round to capture the 170 lb. belt. St. Pierre earned his revenge, along with the title, last month scoring a dominant second-round TKO over the aging Hughes.

St. Pierre will first have to get past Matt Serra, winner of The Ultimate Fighter 4 welterweight division on February 3 in Las Vegas.

Yes, I think GSP is a better match for him then Hughes though. I think Hughes would twist his neck clear off his body.

No way, I think Serra would give Hughes a run for his money. His standup has vastly improved and he's quick as all hell. I just think Hughes has been extremely lucky over the course of his career fighting 2nd rate opponents. 1st time he fights someone decent (BJ Penn) he got whooped, 2nd and 3rd time he got lucky (GSP, BJ Penn again), and the last time his true colors were exposed.

Hold on, BJ fought Hughes twice? I thought it was just that one time when Hughes won, but not easily.

Id think Serra vs. Hughes is more balanced than GSP vs. Serra.

In any case, now theres a 3rd fight. I really hope GSP conquers him again, I dont see how he couldnt. Then Hughes should be humiliated for the final time.

This was inevitable though.

Yeah BJ Penn beat him for his title a few years back. I'd still like to see a 3rd installment of that fight.

I don't think beating Frank Trigg is second rate. He also beat Riggs and frikin Royce Gracie. Would you stop pissin on his career. He is one of the best welter weights in the MMA world. He will beat GSP. I will bet you 5$.

You honestly think Hughes will beat GSP this next time?

Obviously.

Why

Hell I am pulling for the underdog in this match. Go Serra. I mean hell why not? It would be a hell of an upset!

I think Hughes has a shot against GSP too. If he beat him once, he can beat him again. His confidence may be lower and the odds may be against him this time, but he's a world class fighter and anything can happen in a fight.

Hughes wasn't my favorite welterweight until he was beat by GSP. For some reason now I like him.

Cuz now everyone knows hes human!!!!

Seriously though, I am 'willing' against your wills.

IMO, Hughes has a better shot of beating GSP, than if he was to fight Penn again. Hughes looked horrible against Penn in both fights, until Penn got hurt. He'd have to take both fighters to the ground, and Penn is the best there. I'm waiting for Penn to get healthy, the Penn v GSP rematch would be a good one.

That first CRO COP card is building up to be a nice one, too!

Dude, Frank Trigg is 3rd rate at best and Royce Gracie is 113 years old. He will lose to GSP and retire.
