Is it just me or were they a total bust this year? I think they were terribly over-rated. They got friggin rocked last night!

Posted by: IainDaniel

Of course they were over rated it helps sell advertising for NBC. They shouldn't have even been in a BCS game, but again the mighty dollar spoke.

hopefully bcs will learn from this year. notre dame=no good.
boise state=for real

Posted by: ReproMan

Also LSU can beat anyone anywhere right now. If NCAA had a playoff system, they are your champs IMO.

LSU is awesome. Notre Dame was bad this year but they consistently have the toughest schedule in college football

Why would they learn? Of the two teams who drew in more ratings? College football is pro sports to the University, just exploiting players that need to use this path.

No where close to ND's.

Me too. None of the wins ND had were against any team that finished in the top 25 (Georgia Tech ranked 18th in the Fox Poll, but higher then 25th in the others). All the ranked opponents kicked their ass. Plus, now ND has lost 9 straight bowl games, and some of those we not big name bowls.

Someone remind me why Brady Quinn is supposed to be a 1st round pick in the NFL draft?

And in reality they could have had a few other defeats this season. Remember the Collapse by Michigan St.

Yeah those service academies are much tougher than the SEC schools. On second thought, I am going to assume you were kidding.

Name me one big Notre Dame win in the last two years.

Just one.

Yeah, but they were not Navy or Air Force, so I thought I'd be nice.

Yea Michigan wasn't up to form last year, let's not talk about it.

What do you think the preseason top 5 is going to look like?

I'm sure Michigan will be in there, everyone is returning. USC will also.

Posted by: goandykid

BTW, I jsut saw Michigan's 2007 schedule. I think it's reasonably tough, itll def be exciting.

Some of the notable opponents:

OSU
Wisc
Minn
Penn State
Mich state
etc for all the big 10 regulars

and then...

Oregon and ND in back to back weeks, penn state game is the following week.

They were difinitely overrated this year, but let's go easy here. They did play a tough schedule. They were 5-3 against bowl teams. And they lost to 3 of the best 5 teams in the country. Style wise some of those wins were horrible, but they are still wins. If they lost games in the seconds, people would be killing them even more.

I don't hear anybody killing Michigan, and they got handled OSU and destroyed by USC.

Those service teams are harder then Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette, or UCF SEC teams play, Navy barely lost to BC. Georgia Tech, Penn State, Michigan, UCLA, and USC is a strong schedule

Their schedule was about as strong as a typical SEC team. I think the Sagarin ratings would agree with this.

So, I am not really poking fun at their schedule per se.

My point is that they beat the softies on their schedule and lose to everyone else.

I still await a ND fan to point out a big win in the last two years.

I think it would be correct to say they get beat by the "elite teams", but they are certainly competitive with the bowl teams. And yes, they do play their UNCs, and Armys every year, just like every other school.

Here's a breakdown of ND during Brady Quinn's career:

Started 46 games
Record 29-17
vs. Bowl Teams 13-14
vs. Cupcakes 16-3
vs. Top 5 (in AP final Poll) 0-7
vs. Rest of Top 25 3-3

Quality wins:
2003 Pittsburgh (beat #4 Michigan Prior to Quinn taking over)
2004 #13 Tennessee, #14 Michigan, #24 Navy
2005 Michigan
2006 Georgia Tech, #?Penn State (will be top 25), Navy

What it comes down to is ND a probably more like #14 or #15 team, and could be competitive with some of the lower top 10 and down. They do not have the talent on defense to compete with those top 7 or 8 teams right now. You have to remember that Weis is dealing with Willingham's recruits. His recruits should start getting run this upcoming year. He also has the #6 ranked recruiting class coming in, and the #1 overall recruit in Clausen. So we'll see over the next couple years what kind of program Weis is gonna put on the field. I think you'll see a lot of players that wouldn't consider ND in the past coming here now.

For a "BCS" team that "quality win" list is absurd.

They are a top 20 team..that's it.

Posted by: the nut

That may be, but run down the teams that, in your opinion, would have beaten all three or even one of those teams ND lost to. Between the 3 of them they have 5 losses combined against outside competition. Georgia Tech and Penn State will both finish in the top 25 and they beat both of them. And, yes Navy is not a power house, but they are in the top 35 in power rankings, which in my book is not a cupcake.

Also air Tenn squeaked by Air Force as well

More like Notre Lame
