The Yankees also would pay between $1.5 million and $2 million of Johnson's $16 million salary this year.

The Yankees also had discussed trading Johnson to the San Diego Padres."

It sure did, Cashman got rid of a cranky mistake the Yankee people from tampa acquired and get some decent players in return.
