I speak four but only 2 of them I can hold a conversation long time

English
Spanish (cud hold conversation for ever)
Korean (Cud hold a conversation for about 5 min before making a foul of myself)
Japanese (Know a few things, Half are bad words and the rest are respectful words. Nope I can’t hold a conversation is Japanese for 10 sec before punches start fling around lol)

Hehe. I was just messing with ppl that don't know that Bosnian,croatian and serbian are soooo simular, you could say they are the same language. All those countries were one whole state (ex-Yugoslavia). I hope that explains it. Are you a bilingual too Katamaster?

!! Only kiddin', you'll find it in my journal if you really want to know. I'm actually learning another language, Persian. I can understand it but still learning to actually vocalize it. Once you have a few under your belt it's pretty easy to pick other languages up because they are all sorta related.

A summer academic program for international studies...for some reason, Japanese is a core course.

I'm guessing the business language aspect of it, as well as the cultural enrichment/exposure will be nice.

American Sign Language (worked with someone for 2 years so I took a class)

What I would like to ask is......at what point are you prepared to say you speak another language?

Living where I do, I hear dickheads all the time saying they speak this and that and when it comes down to it they know the general greetings, a few one liners, a few dirty words and thats it!!

If you can live by using nothing but that language alone, without problem...coversations.....ordering food.....signing leases....doing your taxes etc...THEN and only then I would say I can speak it.

When people say they can speak a language they need to tell what:

LEVEL.

Here are common levels of foreign language proficiency.

Intro A (true beginner)
Intro B (beginner)

Beginner A
Beginner B

Elementary I
Elementayr II

Pre-Intermediate I
Pre-Intermediate II

Intermediate I
Intermediate II

Upper Intermediate I
Upper Intermediate II

Advanced I
Advance II
Advance II
Advance, way up there.

There are typically 4 skills focused on: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Grammar can also be included.

So for those of you that claim you can speak (or are fluent) in a particular language, stating your level is appropriate.

Here's for me:

Spanish: Intermediate (I can use present and past subjunctives)

Thai: elementary I
Georgian: beginner II
Vientamese Beginner II
