I love cottage cheese and can eat the entire container(but I don't) I was wondering how good of a source of protein is this?

My absolute fav is the "whipped"cottage cheese by friendship-its light like whipped cream and is not bitter at all!-but I can't get it here in MD-

Cottage cheese is an excellent source of slow release protein Does have lactose in it though.

Now a dummy remark- Lactose is not good for muscle growth- or is it only not good post workout?

All dairy products tend to make you hold water from the sodium.

lactose is milk sugar so that's the thing to keep in mind depending on your diet plan etc. it's something you might want to avoid if you're cutting carbs and sugars.

No, I would not eat cottage cheese post w/o, but it's good before bed as your last meal

Since I'm old school, Back in the day(70's and 80's) most bodybuilders lived on this stuff!!

I LOVE cottage cheese! Too bad I am lactose intolerant.

You know its funny- because I had a half container today- and literally seconds before looking at this thread-I looked down at my tummy unusually bloated and sticking out! Now that expalins it- also the fact I had incorporated diet soda back into my diet- probably not the smartest move either...

Cottage cheese rocks! I also buy the Friendship brand..usually the blue or pink..I have seen the whipped but have never bought it. I usually cut up an apple, mix it with 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, and sprinkle the whole thing with cinammon. It rocks!

Leslie, is there a Whole Foods near you? They carry the Friendship brand.

That I will find out!! "whole Foods" sounds familiar...As for the whipped, you NEED to go to the store and BUY it! It has less suagr and more protein and tastes phenomenal right out of the container! I know most of us should not be eatting bagels AT ALL- but if you splurge whipped cottage cheese is an excellent alternative to cream cheese. Let me know if you try it...

I eat it almost every day....but you gotta up the fibre too

I just bought Kraft's Light n Lovely and it has a pretty good Macro ratio of 1/5/12 Fat/carb/Pro. I have a feeling that the little bit of lactose in this is not going to throw your diet for a loop.

PS-Anyone know of anyway to make cottage cheese palatable? I have just been choking it down plain lately.

Try mixing some fruit into it, some cinnamon, splenda...hmmm...(assuming your not watching your carbs)

Cottage cheese is definitely on my bulking shopping list !! Great stuff and very mixable with other goodies !!

Cottage cheese is mostly casein (a slowly digesting protien). It's a good protein source before going to bed.

Duncan

If you like try squeezing some lemon juice with some pepper into the cottage cheese.

It's my fav!

I use cottage cheese on my baked potatoes instead of butta. Yum yum.

Cottage cheese with peaches is the only way I can tolerate cottage cheese. Any cottage cheese ideas?

If you are not caring too much about your calories at the time, try adding apple butter to it, it makes it taste almost like apple sauce. I have also mixed yogurt in with it.

Cottage cheese and pineapple...

I have also mixed yogurt, good stuff. I'm a dairy addict

be carefull with the yogurt, most contain a lot of simple sugars.
