Do you consider bulking/cutting an eating disorder?

Not hard to draw a parallel from cutting to anorexia, or an obesity disorder to bulking.

The differences there would be only mental, right? But the flipside of that difference would be that both are to accomplish the same goal, the same obsession??

Discuss.

I am complete control of my diet. I think people with eating disorders feel a lack of control.

It is just like practicing for a sport if you are bodybuilder or someone trying to put on some LBM.

But then again, most anorexics feel that they are in complete control, and that their lack of eating, or bulimia, is to "cut". Just cutting in a different manner, some could say.

I see what you are saying. However, people with anorexia nervosa/bulimia do not care about nutrition. If a body builder cuts, it is a very controlled and meticulous process. Optimum nutrition is a big part of it. They want to get the best bang for the amount of food they are eating. Always trying to spare muscle mass and try to time eating for exercise performence.

Now, when people with anorexia cut, they don't give a shit about what they put into their body. They often suffer electrolyte and vitamin imbalances as a result. Their main goal is the lose the weight any way possible, often involved very invasive techniques.

These are all generalities, what I said is not always the case.

Now someone with more knowledge can own me.

IMO "experts" put a liberal smear of "eating disorders" out there. They aren't afraid to use the term at ease.

I wasnt saying they were, just thought it would be an interesting dicussion.

No! No discussing allowed, everything is black and white, next topic!

But yes, I agree that there are probably a decent amount of people who live the "bodybuilding" lifestyle who have eating disorders. I think "distorted eating" is alot more common, however.

Fufu has been taking brain pills. You sound a little like trouble there. BTW, where the hell is trouble. I haven't seen her around much lately.

I am in total control with my bulks and cuts. Right now I am a fat bloated bastard and loving it, but I know how un-sexy a bulk can be so I have already scheduled my cut to start in a few days and last until June or July. It will be a slow safe cut. So my answer is a no. Bulking/cutting is not a disorder.

Yeah srsly, she hasn't been in these parts in a while. I think I read on another board she was on a trip/project that takes all her time, but she will be back.

True story, I have accepted my fat gains and learned to like them actually lawl. For a while I was getting real stressed with feeling a bit pudgey. Pudgey for me isn't really that pudgey but I lived most of my life as an ecto. I like being bigger all around and don't mind some soft spots. Damn, I got off topic.

As per an article I read, you could have an eating disorder if:

1) Refusal to maintain body fat at a healthy level (defined in women as the level necessary for normal menstrual cycles to take place) accompanied by a desire to maximize muscle mass.

(2) Intense fear of gaining fat or losing muscle, even though body fat is below normal, as defined above, and degree of muscularity is far above average.

(3) Strict adherence to a rigid diet with at least 2 of the following features:

(a) At least 5 meals per day, consumed on a regular schedule, for example every 3 hours.

(b) Meals all consist of high-calorie, high-protein, low-fat foods or food supplements.

(c) A significant amount of time and money is spent acquiring, preparing and eating these specialized meals.

(4) Disturbance in the way in which one's body composition is experienced or undue influence of body appearance on self-evaluation.

(5) Social and occupational opportunities are frequently given up because they interfere with the composition or timing of meals.

i would have to say closer to obsessive compulsive disorder than eating disorder.
