I'm bulking, but I'm sure its not good to eat a lot of carbs right before bed, so I have come up with this.

1 can tuna mixed with salsa for taste
Yougurt
1 Cup 1% Milk
Almonds

Thats comes to about

450 Cals
44 grams Protein
12 grams Fat
24 grams carbs

I know there's carbs still but I think 24 isn' t too bad. What do you think?

Its really not to bad, but I dont see the point of the milk or yogurt. As far as tuna its not the best choice b4 bed, (lean more torwards, steak or cottage cheese). I like the almonds. I just see no point of ever eating carbs before bedtime. The bad outweighs the good here. But get someone elses take on it first.

The reason I added the milk was becuase I thought I needed the slower digesting protein in milk and yeah I guess there is no point to the yogurt.

Thats actually the number one reason I drink milk before bed.

However, when I have the food, I eat cottage cheese (but it has to have fruit, or else ill barf) before bed.

Yes, red meat before bed.

Beef builds blood and is a superior source of blood-building nutrients which include creatine, carnitine, phenylalanine, CLA and iron. It's actually the most absorbable form of iron. All of this makes it very anabolic which is what you want at bedtime. It's one of the most slow digesting proteins too.

Iron in spinach is different from iron in red meat then?

Posted by: Jodi

Yes, beef has heme iron and vegetables have non-heme iron.

Heme is absorbed at approximately 25%. It's also not affected/blocked by other foods.

Non-heme is only absorbed at approximately 8%. Oxalates in spinach and phytates in whole grains can block the abosorption of iron. Fiber can also inhibit absorption. This is why it is extemely important for a female veggie to take elemental iron supps.

Mmm, yes. Thank you for that repsonse.

And this is why beef can help anemia while spinach will hardly effect it? Now I can't remember if it was microcytic or macrocytic in which it helps, or if it even matters.

Microcytic anemia is the most common and is due to iron deficiency. Macrocytic Anemia is due to deficiency in folic acid and B12. Then you have Pernicious Anemia which is a B12 deficiency

Cool Beans. Learned something new today.

okay so if I eat beef how big of a serving should I have? Like how many grams of protein will I need for the night? Im 190 lbs.

Well my suggestion would be what best fits your daily caloric intake and protein requirments. Just like any other meal I shoot for 30 grams of protein or a little more. And I am around 215.

Ive heard it is bad to mix fish and dairy products, apparently can cause skin rashes/pigmentation???

I usually have a cup of low fat CC with some low GI fruit like strawberries or blueberries.....

^^ Thats a good night time meal, however I would add some fat as well.
