Only carb I really consume other then ezekial bread and fruit/veggies, for the same reason.

i have been trying just 1 cup and putting some water in it and warming it up in the microwave...u guys dont really think it tast good do you? or just downing it for the benefits?

Posted by: Yanick

I don't warm anything up in the microwave. I eat it raw with either a little bit of milk, protein, tea or plain water. I usually just pour milk and/or protein onto the oatmeal give it a minute or two to soak up the liquid and get a bit soggy then eat it with a spoon. If i'm not having milk/protein in a meal I will take a spoon of oatmeal and drink some water/tea with it to get it down.

I should also note that I can't stomach cooked oatmeal because as a child my mother used to force feed that shit to me and i think i developed some kind of psychosomatic response to it as i matured. I literally vomit if i try eating cooked oatmeal.

Posted by: rhouser

ok i will try not warming it up....dont want to sound stupid but when u say u put protein on it what are u referring to...powder?

I eat it un-cooked in my yogurt mixed with whey Powder. Sometimes I use oat bran in place of oatmeal mixed in my PWO drinks as well (not as chunky as regular oatmeal).

I put a packet of splenda, a little cinnamon, and maybe some fruit into mine and then cook it in the microwave until it rises. Just barely enough water to cover the oats.

Or if you want a quicker solution, throw the raw oats into the blender, water, add a little splenda, maybe some protein powder if you'd like, maybe some fruit, and drink it! This is what I do when I dont have enough time to eat a whole bowl of oatmeal

I sometimes put blackstrap molasses on my oatmeal to sweeten it- it taste pretty good and is really good for you. http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?t...spice&dbid=118

Posted by: Phoenix87

I mix 2 tbl of peanut butter. Sometimes I add some chocolate whey. Ends up tasting like a peanut butter cup...

Posted by: Witchblade

I can't stand it either so I sometimes add 1 tblspn. of artificial sweetener to the bowl. Makes it a lot more bearable.

I never would have thought to eat it raw, always been putting it in the microwave. I tried it raw tonight with some saccharin and it went down fine, i could probably cut down the saccharin too. good times all around.

Posted by: Hammerlynn

My Dad puts it in his shakes. I nuke it then add a little soymilk and SF syrup. You can add canned pumpkin (pure..not filling type) with splenda and pumpkin pie spice and splenda..way good!

Posted by: Trav1809

I either put it in shakes, or warm it up in the microwave and eat it that way. I never thought of just eating it raw out of the bag. maybe i will give that a try tonight.

Wouldn't eating the oatmeal raw be more harsh on your digestive system then eating it "cooked"?

Posted by: Sandy42

I thought oatmeal tasted awful as well. But I've had it before with vanilla yogurt, honey, and other things like nuts and fruits. You'd be suprised at how good that tastes.

Step 1:
Buy a coffee grinder. They are cheap and you can buy them almost anywhere. I bought one at Target but anyplace like Walmart will have them. Here's an example:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000BRLXUI

Step 2:
Go to this website and use the store locator to find a retailer close to you to purchase this product. This stuff is gold. 560 calories per cup and the store by my house sells it for .99 cents a pound!

https://www.bobsredmill.com/

Look at the nutritional value on this stuff:

Nutritional Information for
Steel Cut Oats
Serving Size 1/4 cup(40g)
Servings Per Container 17.00
Calories 140.00
Calories from Fat 25.00
Total Fat 2.50g

Sodium 0.00mg
Total Carbohydrate 27.00g
Dietary Fiber 4.00g
Sugars 0.00g

Ingredients whole grain oats

Step 3:
Grind oats up with coffee grinder and throw them in your favorite shake. If they oats are took thick in your shake just add more milk/water. I strongly recommend 8oz of liquid to every 1/4 cup of oats. Obviously you will need more milk/water if you add more ingredients like peanut butter or fruit.

EVERY day I have serveral of the following shakes.

cheap, quick, easy to prepare

16oz ice cold skim milk
1/2 cup ground steel cut oats
1 scoop of ON whey (chocolate)

571 calories
77 grams of carbs
53 grams of protein
7 grams of fat.

Hard gainer shake

20oz skim milk
1/2 cup steel cut oats
2 tbsp natural peanut butter
1 large banana
1 scoop of whey

899 calories
110 grams of carbs
63 grams of protein
23 grams of fat

Cutting Shake
16oz ice cold water
1/4 cup steel cut oats
1.5 scoops of whey

330 calories
27 grams of carbs
40 grams of protein
3.5 grams of fat

Tips:
- If you noticed I haven't added any EFA's to these shakes. These are option and if you put 1-2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil or flax seed oil you won't even taste it. The cutter shakes in water I would stick to 1 tbsp all the other are good for us much as you want but I can hardly tell 2 tbsps are in the other ones.
- constantly shake these up in a shaker cup because the oats will settle at the bottom for quickly.
- always drink ice cold!
- if you can not find steel cut oats, old fashioned rolled oats will work. Just don't get any that are "quick" or have sugar. Rolled oats are good just not as calorie dense as the steel cut oats.
- experiment with what you like and what fits your macros. Any fruits, PB, etc etc are great. I've even heard of people putting cottage cheese in their shakes. I'm not brave enough to try that but you get the point. Enjoy!

I also am having problems with oats. Never thought of grinding it up and putting it in a shake! Some great posts! thanks

Posted by: leg_press

measure out enough oats for 50g of carbs (done it so often I can do it by eye) mix 1 scoop of ON whey with 250ml of full fat milk, shake/blend, pour over raw oats, add dried fruit, eat like cereal.

job done!

Posted by: Bakerboy

Grate fresh nutmeg on your oatmeal or hit it with coriander and little brown sugar.
I'm eating oatmeal as I write this hahaha.

Posted by: crankshaft

What's the big deal? Oatmeal is oatmeal. If you don't like it, rather than going through all the trouble of dousing it, grinding it, smashing it ,zapping it,etc. eat something else!

Posted by: loki

there's no blood in my poop.

1 scoop whey
1/3 cup oats
1 small banana
2 strawberries
1 tablespoon natural pb
1 cup unsweetened soy milk

Posted by: geotein

flavor coffee creamer mixed with oatmeal
or cranberries, raisins eat up.

I honestly thought I was crazy eating oats raw, but its like cereal almost when u add some milk.

Posted by: Craig17

I eat 1.5 cups oatmeal, with 1-1.5 scoops of strawberry ON 100% whey every morning. I heat it in the microwave, then add the protein. I just make sure it's not in the microwave for too long or it hardens and gets disgusting.

just swallow the oats

Posted by: AKIRA

Am I the only one that makes it in a pot over a stove? I cant see me losing anything by this other than time.

I put dark brown sugar into mine. I am bulking and a lil bit of that makes it so much better. Also a splash of milk, since I boil it in water.

Posted by: calalily1972

Microwave! There are much healthier options to add to your oatmeal while bulking than sugar

Posted by: AKIRA

In a perfect world, ok.

But I dont live there.

You shouldve seen my diet years ago!

I do not normally cook mine, however if I do it is zapped in the microwave. And if I want it sweeter I will add a few raisins or splenda. Depending if I want the carbs or not.

Excuses are the precursors to failure.

Posted by: AKIRA

To give some insight, when I first started working out, I ate nothing but meat regardless of what kind or how much fat was in it. I never got fat and I know I made muscular gains. But its ME. My metabolism and caloric intake was crazy. I couldnt eat protein shakes without a half cup of hersheys chocolate syrup, for christ's sake.

That was years ago. Since then, Ive incorporated foods into my diet Ive never though of eating...whole grain breads, ONLY egg whites, sweet potatoes (still trying), cottage cheese, grilled chicken not fried, BROCCOLI, ASPARAGUS, etc. Thats right, NONE of this went into my body until now.

My diet isnt perfect, but its much better.

That adage you typed is almost insulting.

Posted by: calalily1972

Sorry if you took it that way. My whole point is that there are much better and healthier choices you can make that would add a lot of flavor to your oatmeal without the added crap Chopped apple and cinnamon or blueberries or raisins etc...
