Sweetner- good or evil???

I read the following in a recent "low-carb article":

Artificial Sweeteners Are Not the Answer

Sweet taste - even from artificial sweeteners - causes an increase in calories coming from fat and protein. No surprise considering what we've learned today.

Sweet taste, even coming with artificial sweetener, raises glucose concentration in the blood before the food has a chance to be digested. Why? Because your body knows that eventually, it will have all the carbs you've swallowed and it doesn't wait until it that happens. When the sweet food is real, the carbohydrates eventually get into the blood.

Do u guys think this is accurate? I hope not because I use sweetner a lot on things in the effort to reduce fat loss!!

I chose to cut out all things sweet when on a major cut. I don't care what the numbers say. If I drink coffee (very rarely) it's straight up, if I drink alchohol, it's straight up. With that said, Splenda and other sweetners are not the devil. Used in moderation of course. You can't go around sprinkling the stuff on your steaks and shit.

I just add them in my tea/coffee or on non-fat greek yogurts as a snack, but it adds up to about 10 teaspoons a day.

The nutrition info says it's 1 cal per teaspoon so I thought nothing of it!

also I forgot about the sweetner found in protein shakes, I'm sure most of u don't cut them out while cutting!!!!!

Definitely not. I chose not to add any other sweetners. But it is more than OK to do so. Just don't go overboard. 10 teaspoons sounds alittle much?

just 10 cals though, I have about 4 cups of coffee, 2 in each of them and then a couple on my greek yogurt.

it's not the cals that's the problem, it's the supposed side effects that they can have.

Bingo. I would stay under 5 tbs a day.

Eat foods from nature. This man made crap is not good. I would never trust sweeteners.

I see where your coming from guys, gotta cut down on tea/coffee I guess!

Maybe find a different sweetener...or for tea, add lemon

Screaming 'sweeteners are bad!' doesn't prove anything. Does anyone has anything to back it up?

The article speaks of sweeteners doing the same thing as sugars: correct?
What are the side-effects of sweeteners?

i have only ever heard hearsay stuff like:

It can give you cancer (but doesnt everything)
It can give you stomach ulcers
some claim headaches and there are a few other things i have 'heard' from others but i have never read anything solid.

i used to take sweetner in tea and coffee. (i dont have coffee anymore)
i only drink a tea in the morning if i feel i need a pick up without anything

Sacarin is illegal in England and much of Europe. There's a reason for that! America won't acknowledge it, but 1/3 of the world does!

I buy my protein powder unsweetened and just add a packet or 2 of splenda (sometimes i don't.....which tastes real awesome). and i might have 2 or 3 packs in a cup of coffee, which i only drink on training days a half an hour before i train.

I never noticed anything from splenda, but for some reason if i have something that has aspartame in it, I feel like i have to drop one right afterwards, sorta like a dieretic......(diuretic?....how bout diet-redic?..no?...dyeretic?....fuck it whatever.) Any body else experience this?

why's it illegal?

Concerns with cancer. It is also banned in Canada. There are some concerns that the studies that led to this ban were flawed.

I heard it gives cancer or something. Dont quote me.
