On a bulk, 4 workouts/wk, getting a new PWO shake. 6ft, 176lb, bodyfat in the 8-9% range.

Have been pointed to this one by the guys at the shop, but I've always been in sales, so I never believe a word they say. Has creatine and other gear in it. Will be using another protein only shake for breakfast time.

Opinions/info from those in the know?

A fellow Aussie!

Maxs' is a decent product but overpriced IMO.

The grade of protein they use is pretty good. That particular Post Workout blend has a high ratio of Hydrolysed WPI meaning it is quickly absorbed. It also has plenty of dextrose which claims to spike insulin to replenish glycogen and transport protein (plenty of debate on this and I personally think it is a waste of calories)

If your planning to use this purely as a post-workout it is fine, however if you intend on using it at other times eg Breakfast/Non-Training days also I would consider other options.

I personally use this product (at $30/Kg it is great value):

http://www.myopure.com.au/whey-protein-isolate.html

all the proteins from this site are top notch. The only thing is they contain no addtitives so you will need to flavour yourself. Additional additives such as dextrose in protein powders are designed to rip people off IMO as they are cheap and mean the MFR has to place less protein in the product.

Jodi as well as many othersfrom this board suggest the following mix:

WPI
Oats
Fresh Fruit
Low Fat Yoghurt

You can also add skim milk/flax/natural peanut butter if it is not a PWO shake. Its best to add your own ingredients rather than have crap added by a MFR.

Good luck.

Yeah a brissy boy.

Problem is im a PT at a gym, so I usually rip my PWO at work, where I dont have a blender, and keeping/mixing yoghurt etc is in the too hard basket.

Will be finishing off my Elite Dymatize (bah) then going to a new protein only source, and this one looks quite interesting. How does it taste without flavouring?

Does seem quite pricey, although the BCAA's and creatine seem to be making up for it a little. After being up since 5am, finishing a workout at 8:30-9pm, having it all in the shake ready to go is probably worth the extra $ for me.

I have to say I could not really drink it without any flavouring. Adding some milo to is PWO is easy. It mixes in a shaker reasonably well but best in a blender.

If you end up going for the maxs option, dont buy the Post workout blend. Buy the lean daytime blend which is pretty much protein with no additives. THen go buy some dextrose seperately (like GNC or health food shop) for around $5 and add it yourself.

THis way you will get more protein for your $$$.

On the site I recommended, check out the DH17 protein which is comparable to MAXs in price but way above in quality. This is what most pro BB's take. Same deal tho, no flavouring or additives.
