sodium?

i found these DELICIOUS turkey burgers. pre-made frozen patties. sound gross - but they aren't. they have more protein than most which i like (28 grams). i add 2 egg whites to the meal and i'm set for protein.

but...here's the thing. they are seasoned and they are salty. maybe not salty....but my tastebuds aren't used to much.

each one has 550 mg sodium. that's high. i don't eat anything else that's seasoned or salted. would one a day be a bad idea on a cut? i used to buy the meat and make my own but these were on sale and now that i've tasted them i'm hooked.

the sodium content is probably too high for me to eat them. drat! i should have checked that before i bought them!

Unfortunately most things that are frozen and premade tend to be high in sodium. 550 mg isn't that bad when you think that there is over 1000 in most canned soups.

Your RDA for sodium is 2000 mg per day (I believe) so having one of those a day shouldn't push you over that unless you're eating a lot more high sodium foods.

thanks ponyboy. it's a lot lower then lots of premade food out there (that i wouldn't eat). but i'm thinking even if it isn't a big health risk i shouldn't have it while cutting.

i'd love to be wrong....but it's not really the rda i was worried about so much as my diet.

don't sweat the sodium nikegurl...your high water intake will take care of it.

It's fine NG

very good news. these things are SO good!

no "funky" ingredients 'cept for turkey and spices.
thanks!

Drinking a lot of water will help out with sodium intake? I have cut out almost all of my salt (and I was a salt fanatic). Could I have a little (very little) if I make sure to drink plenty of h2o? If so...how much h2o?

sodium occurs naturally in foods, and it is also present in processed foods...but you wouldn't want to begin salting all your foods. Shoot for 1500-2000mg a day and 4-6 litres of water.

WOW! 4-6 per day! That is a lot. I am not getting anywhere near that. I better get busy!

Anyone got a boat I can borrow? LOL

Who makes the turkey burgers? I love turkey burgers and if I could save time and not make them myself that would be sweet.

i checked again last night and the ones i just got actually have 400 mg sodium. cool.

there are plenty with less but WOW these are yummy compared to them.

they're called Wampler. they were with the frozen meat. they come in a zip loc plastic bag. 12 in the package. i hope you can find them!

these have 11 grams fat and 21 grams protein. they're probably very similar though.
