PRIDE For Sale? What We Know

by Greg Savage and Josh Gross

After the Sherdog Radio Network broached the subject Monday morning, the mixed martial arts world reacted strongly to rumors of an impending sale of PRIDE FC to Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta for an estimated $65 million.

While the Fertittas, Zuffa and UFC have remained silent, PRIDE USA vice president Jerry Millen offered a strong denial of the sale to graciefighter.com early Tuesday morning.

"You can't beleive [sic] what you read on the Internet and as a matter of fact I just got off the phone with Japan and PRIDE has not been sold and is not being sold to anyone, especially to Zuffa," Millen exclaimed. "We are in the process of making some ground breaking deals that will be bringing in large sums of revenue to the company and making it stronger than ever."

So that answer is no.

Does PRIDE still "own" UFC BigDyl?

stop bursting my bubble ... <----- dreaming of all the potential match-ups.

It says they will be still seperated.

What can come of this?

Posted by: BoneCrusher

Pride is having a financial crises it sounds like so something is gonna give. Their boy Fedor is doing some stuff with BODOG, so they are in jeopardy of losing some more big name talent. If UFC gets them then it may go like the WEC is going ... separate from UFC events and match ups. There is some cherry picking going on of course from the WEC. Rampage is an example.

What could come of it is in my opinion either some shit cards with a few good names at the top for the marketing guys to sell the PPV's with, or some serious bouts filled with real fights.

I wonder how this will change the face of MMA. Zuffa now owns the two biggest promotions and seemingly has a monopoly. Will they change the rules in Pride and will they bring fighters over to the UFC?

I like to read MMA weekly over sherdog, because they have no financial interest in what they report. Sherdog has money tied up in some of their programs, the reporters, and of course their website ... so it sorta taints what they print. For example, they posted the piece with Dana White as the gospel ... the one where Dana said the deal was unlikely and that you can't believe everything you read because it was made to THEIR reporter and would bring them more peeps to their site. He was lying through his teeth, yet sherdog printed that like it was solid.

MMA weekly is more accurate than most other online MMA news sources, and even say outright if they quote a doubtful source that it is in fact a questionable source.

I agree MMA Weekly is defintely more accurate when it comes to news, but their rankings are poor at best.

8. Fabricio Werdum
9. Aleksander Emelianenko
10. Mark Hunt

Re-order them as you like. We can take a look at what you come up with and see if we agree.

I'm not off on a challenge, and I'm not trying to defend MMA weekly. This is just pure conversation about the rankings ...

LOL@ sylvia and couture being way above werdum, aleks, and hunt.

You prolly have a message buried in your sarcasm somewhere ... stop being lazy and post something with substance BigDyl. Post your own rankings ... don't be afraid. We won't laugh at ya ...

Actually I kinda agree with the HW rankings, it's all the other classes that are whacked out.

For example:

MMA Weekly Rankings

LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION (160 pounds and lower)

1. Hayato Sakurai
2. Takanori Gomi
3. Gilbert Melendez
4. Nick Diaz
5. Tatsuya Kawajiri
6. Shinya Aoki
7. Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro
8. Joachim Hansen
9. Mitsuhiro Ishida
10. Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto

Number one, where's Sean Sherk? I know he hasn't fought much as a LW, but the fact that Nick Diaz is on here, and Sherk isn't is a crime. Number two, I've seen very little of him, and I think he's extremely talented and agressive, but Gilbert Melendez has no business @ #3 on this list.

MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION:

1. Matt Lindland
2. Anderson Silva
3. Paulo Filho
4. Rich Franklin
5. Dan Henderson
6. Denis Kang
7. Frank Trigg
8. Nathan Marquardt
9. Kazuo Misaki
10. Jeremy Horn

Number one, who in God's name has Matt Lindland beat to deserve the #1 spot on this list? The half way decent names that he's beat, Anderson Silva beat more convincingly. Not to mention he got KTFO by David Terrell. Dan Henderson #5!?!? IMO he would beat the 4 guys in front of him on this list 9 out of 10 times. Frank Trigg seems a little over ranked as well...

I'm out of time for now but theres a few, I'll be back with more.

Interesting ... maybe we can all come together and create an IM top 10 rankings.
