I have found new found respect for anyone who weight lifts. I thought i was going to die(no exageration). I was unbelievaby hungry and as soon as i was finished i sucked down a blender full of shake so fast i thought i was going to throw up. when i was finished i was drenched from head to toe in sweat. it looked like i took a shower in my clothes. I started watching TV and i just started shaking. Also lunges made me feel like my knees were going to pop out. just letting you guys know I dont know how you guys handle this 3-4x a week. Im going to just push through it.

Posted by: mrmark

You'll adadpt quickly dont worry.

sounds like you pushed it so well done

Posted by: JonnyStead

Yeah - welcome to the club - this is a GREAT time to start a journal so record all your stats and how much you're doing so you can look back in a year in wonderment over your progress!

Posted by: kinkery

lol....sounds like my first nut

Posted by: danny81

lol. i have a quick question. Lunges are really hard for me so is it alright if i was to take a little longer break than usual in between sets? or is that bad?

Posted by: mrmark

how much time were you thinking of taking?

Posted by: P-funk

in another thread you said that you had worked out before and had someone teach you olympic lifts and such.

your stories suck.

Posted by: AKIRA

Yeah, I just dont get these threads. Kenwood x 2.

Posted by: danny81

I mean first real workout. getting taught the olympic lifts where just with an empty bar.

Posted by: danny81

o and inbetween lunges like 2min?

Posted by: Dumby

For things like lunges I usually just do 30 sec rest. You'll adapt really quickly. Wait for tomorrow; that is pain. Good luck walking down stairs for a while. Wait until your legs start giving out for no reason.

Posted by: camarosuper6

Dont forget to end each workout session with heavy - weighted plyometrics!

Posted by: DiGiTaL

Heh it'll get easyier. A lot, and you'll love working out. Keep the good work.

AFTER you've been lifting for a while and can build up to hack jumps that is ... until then stick to the basics.

You confuse me too. Your stories are a mismatch, but if you continue on with this as a journal I'm sure it will all sort itself out.

My advise is to be detailed in how you describe your routines so people have faith in what you say ... ... cuz it seems like you have some contradictions in play danny.

Good luck on your work outs. DO NOT STOP!!!!

I know ... I'm used to seeing you joke around. He on the other hand is a noob. Picture a noob putting sand plates in his back-pac and trying to do hack-jumps.

"911 --- see the man on the floor with a back-pac halfway up his ass".

yup. I got the soreness today. its mainly in my traps, lats, and hams, not to bad in my quads. it was probably because i stretched them alot after lifting. i have boxing in 3 hrs lol. any recomondations on how to help get rid of the soreness a little before i box?

Posted by: danny81

BTW this is my journal http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/on...preciated.html

No danny it's the other way around ... stretching post workout reduces soreness. FYI "a lot" not "alot".

Stretching is the medication that heals. That and a hot tub work for me. Some people use ice after heat and find that effective so you could give it a shot.

You really need to read the stretching/warm-up sticky. Guys like p-func put a lot of time and heart in to these posts so you can read them. you really want to be serious about this then do what we all did ... read through every sticky. On the stuff that really fits your needs hit the print button and re-read that part. Right now danny your habit is to ignore the stickies and just post a question ... ... very bad habit. That shows a high disregard for the effort the guys here like p-func put into the stickies you ignore ... READ THEM!!!

Posted by: danny81

alright. im reading them now.

Posted by: danny81

alright what i got out of them was that i should do static stretching after and dynamic before.

Posted by: danny81

lol. alright. BTW can you send me the ways to get the MMA routines. thanks. im almost done reading now.

Posted by: Double D

Your rest periods depend on your goals. 60-90 for hypertrophy. More than 90 is normally strength, and around 30 is normally endurance.

Posted by: danny81

o ok. thanks.

Posted by: Newt

You're gonna be sore. Keep up the good work.

Posted by: danny81

yah. i am really sore. and now i have to do another workout.

Posted by: Newt

Don't worry about the sore muscles. In a few weeks it won't be as bad. If you hit it right you'll be sore after every workout for awhile.

Posted by: Double D

Keep in mind for future reference DOMS means nothing as far as muscle growth goes. DOMS being muscle soreness.

Posted by: danny81

oo alright. good. BTW i learned i have exceptionally weak legs. im sure they will get stronger between lifiting and kickboxing.

Posted by: Newt

If you don't get enough rest and nutrition between lifting and kickboxing, you spinning your wheels.

Posted by: danny81

o damn. i get like 7 hrs of sleep a night. and nutrition. i try and eat healthy but since im 15 its hard ot get food all the time.

yeah same here, I think there are quite a lot of us who read & learn a lot and only post when there is something constructive to say

then I could be wrong lol

Hum....I just like to be heard!

Danny your doing well. Read, read, read. But read in the right places. Here is a great place to start!

Posted by: P-funk

danny is doing great. I took a look at his program, and I am amazed that his se up is pretty good! you are on your way young one!

After you've been here for a while you'll figure out who you wanna hear from and who the trolls are. Ignore the trolls that just drop bombs in your threads for lack of a life of their own and do what you are here to do ...learn how to lift. If kinkery is a pain in your as put him on ignore and go on with life.

I started at about your age. I respect the fact that you're here trying to better your self at such a young age danny. Keep up the good work. You'll dial in your routines and diet as time passes and as more people see you are serious and unwaivering in your intention to do this you will get more help. You just have to stick with it and keep posting details of what you do and how you do it.

The truth of what you are about will be in the details of what you post. You cannot bullshit people here and get away with it, AND you cannot be serious without we will see it in your posts. Just like in the gym little brother ... we all see who sweats and who doesn't by their actions not their bullshit.

I lift with several guys who's genetics gave them a bigger musculature than I was born with, but are not as strong as I am with my smaller body because I took the time to come here to IM and learn HOW to lift.

The best trick about learning here is to lurk in the journals of both males and female members AFTER you have read and re-re-re-read all the stickies. Look in on the journal section ... silently ...

kinkery if you have nothing to add that is of a helpful nature then why not give the kid a break and post in other threads? danny hasn't earned your disrespect ...

Its funny you say that because I have a buddy who is just like that. hes a monster, but does everything wrong. He maybe big, but his posture is shit! He has many muscle imbalances which will cause unwanted stress and injuries later on if not fixed. I try to tell him, but hes one of those know it alls.

LOL ... I know the same guy at my gym. Heavy weights, not enough warm-ups?

Posted by: Double D

The guy does 1-warmup set, and blam hes ready. He does no stretching post. Does very little core work. He works chest probably 2 times more than back. On top of it all he is still getting his programs from bb'ing mags.

For me 9 out of 10 times I go hit the racquetball court after I lift so stretching is not until later but LOL ... yup. Same guy. Don't forget the mirror ...

Matter of time before their first injury?

Yep, loves himself.

depends. some of them can get no injury at all.

others end up coming into physical therapy.

if people had access to good information, a lot of that stuff could be avoided and prevented. it just sucks that no one really has a good resource to turn to for info on proper program design.

That is the goal of a good trainer (if you read my blog entry "working yourself out of a job" you will know this). You need to work on making your clients independant.

Posted by: Double D

Independant? To what point though P? Are you wanting to make him/her so much that he/she doesnt need you anymore?

I am going to take a look at that blog.

Posted by: Double D

Nevermind I am reading it. This answers me.

Posted by: Double D

Thats a fantastic entry! Thank you, it clears things up well. I have always wondered that and figured once people get to the point they know enough they will probably be on their way. And I like how you still answer emails from them even though they are no longer clients, but more like friends at this point. Thanks P.

yes, exactly! A good trainer should be able to graduate their clients.

Here is the set up I have at my facility for graduates......they train for a time, get proficient and feel confident and then pay a monthly fee to just train at the facility on their own. With that, they get 1 training session a month so that we can work on something new and talk about their program for the next 4 weeks. I change the variables for them, etc....but they are indpendant to train on their own. It works out great because, they don't need to have a trainer for ever, they still train at my gym (so I continue to make a living) and they love it because they have me there to ask a million questions to when they need too. Otherwise, they are going to end up going to some shit house like Lifetime Fitness and have no access to someone who is going to answer their questions or help them out and they will end up paying more money to train there than they will at my place.

Posted by: Double D

Hahah.....lifetime fitness is getting some serious shitting on these days!

I understand your philosophy.

I average about 60hrs/wk at work! I still have time to lift and get plenty of sleep. You just have to get your priorities in line. I know it is hard to do when your 15 though. Keep up the good work and get the rest and nutrition you need.
